Here are my comments as per recent experiences of our clients.
Be prepared to wait for about 4 - 6 weeks before the card arrives by mail to your address in Canada.
You must provide a valid Canadian mailing address to the visa officer at the port of entry, per haps a friend or relative's full address.
Take two new good pictures of everyone as per the specifications. You might have provided these during your application. With while background, matt paper, specific size etc. Sometimes the visa officer can take a picutre at the port of entry if the picutres you provide are not good or the ones on your landing documents are not acceptable.
For first time landing immigrants, the cards are mailed to the address unless there is a problem with the picture and you may be asked to come personally to take a new picture. At that time, if you are not in Canada, it could pose a problem. So i suggest you remain in Canada till you receive your cards.
I trust this is helpful.

Hi
I intend to do my first landing in April 2004. Minimum for how many days I have to stay there to complete the formalities if I have a friend who can send the PR card and other documents by courier to me.

I landed last year and stayed there for just 3 days to apply for PR card, SIN card. and went back to Indian and then to USA. I gave my friend address and when he came back to India during vacation after 4 month he gave to me. He did not posted my post since PR card is the property of Canada gov and you can just have it and cannot send by post. so if your freind can keep it and give it to you when he comes back later then it is fine otherwise check with the other source for the possibility..

Hi Bavan,
Did you submit any application before leaving Canada?. I am planning to go to Canada this month end and come back to US immediately. I am planning to move to Canada permanently after a year only. So should I apply for SIN during this visit or can I wait. Also I believe if you open bank account or get a driving licence then only you need to pay tax in Canada. Is there a way we can avoid paying tax if you are not working in Canada?. Also is there any thing else that I should be aware of before I go to Canada this month end.
Thanks in advance.
