Well most of you must have hear about 'Dinesh D'souza' an American desi.
There seems to be a growing attempt by pundits both of the right and center to claim that significant racism no longer exists.
The American Enterprise Institute's Dinesh D'Souza, of course, makes this claim in his book The End of Racism, in which he asserts that racism "no longer has the power to thwart blacks or any other group in achieving their economic, political, and social aspirations."
JUST a reminder to you Hindustani.
What about racism in India? It is not color there but within different religions. Can you put an end to that when you go back?
Caste is a distinctive feature of India's ancient Hindu religion, which divides society into four groups -- priests, warriors, traders and workers and those born outside these categories who are regarded as untouchables and called 'dalits'.
Racism exists in all colors. If you cannot help in improving it, then it is best if you ignore it.
If racism was an issue then why is that we have had so many MISS WORLD and MISS UNIVERSE lately. We can learn something from this, that it is BEAUTY and BRAINS not color.
If you have self-respect then there is nothing more important than that to yourself to carry around.
If you are not happy here then it is best to leave on the next flight. Why wait and make the new immigrants miserable. Some of them are on their way to become successful Canadian Desis.
Being 10 years in Canada you should have had your eyes and ears open. If you have kept them closed then how do you expect to learn anything positive.
It is best if you leave for India as soon as possible, else you will miss the train.
The best thing would be explore the realities ! Why don't you visit India with your family and stay there for six months, know the facts, realize the differences you and your family feels and then make a joint decision!

Sucess is not an accident it is a result of hardwork with intelligence.
Dear Hindustani,
Grass looks greener in the neighbour's lawn....or should I say snow looks whiter on the other side of the fence?
India has its own problems!

I agree India has its own problems. Being here in Dubai where there is clear cut distinction between locals and outsiders. Then we have discrimination on the basis of nationalities. We have it all here. Looking at this thread i can see its very much there in Canada as well. And we all know its there in India very much.
In India we have discrimination on the basis of caste.. then ofcourse on the basis of rich and poor and even in rich its a race of connections. Who knows the CM or PM... All this good feel about improvement is great but our feedback is basically from the Metros. I am not denying India is definately making progress but that doesn't mean we dont have problems.
India has it own rules and its really difficult to catchup when you have spent your prime time outside india.
Here is one example of my relative who is running a business in punjab..
After the govt change in Punjab i asked him how is state doing.. is there any sign of improvement. His reaction was things are very bad and its becoming difficult to run the business..And when i asked him what are the problems he is facing.. the answer was that its difficult to get permits now as the officials are scared to take money now a days. That there is a problem in getting things done from the back door. And its not only my relative most of the people are part of it.
Point i am trying to derive is that curruption has gone in blood and we dont even think its curruption any more... I know we as indians feel proud that we get things done no matter how but then india has different rules to do things and things might just bring you back to this crossroad...

Manjeet,
In Dubai...the racist attitudes are accepted and taken for granted (maybe due to ignorance and/or helplessness on part of the involved). e.g: many jobs are advertised for white people. However, here it is a different story. People are socially aware enough to know iracism is wrong. However, some people tend to make it more of a problem than it really is...and tend to blame it for their own weaknesses.

At least here if you work hard and persevere, you can make it regardless of colour of skin, accent (& hairstyle) ... All you have to be is GOOD. If anything goes wrong, you can confidently rely on the rule of law.
Some people would rather exist in this setting (Canada) than be somewhere where all their efforts are constantly being frustrated by corruption, favouritism, nepotism & patronage.
As for working in the Middle East: the expat knows from the outset, he/she is only there temporarily and as a FOREIGNER. There's no expectation of inclusion/assimilation or even recognition at times.
At the end, we all make these choices as informed adults and should be willing and able to live the consequences. If not, we can always choose somewhere else ... It's easy to blame ...
One major goal of CANADIANDESI.COM is to prepare/inform prospective immigrants before they land so that they know what to expect AND once they are here, they have a 'FAMILY' that they can 'rely' on for support.
If we achieve only this much, we've achieved our goal!
