hey guys,
A friend of mine just got fired..and the wudnt tell him y they fried him...
if he apply for EI (Employment Insurance), is there any chance he wud qualify?
let me know if sum1 went through same situation..thanx..

Hmm. Termination without just cause. I suppose he was in probation. Regarding EI, yes, he has the choice of continuing with EI or getting it terminated. Anyway, paying for EI is somewhere around 15$ to 20$ per month. He will be qualified. You have to tell your choice within a month.

What does this mean? I do not think this answers the OP's question. The question was if that person was fired, will he be eligible to receive EI.

When your job is terminated, the employer gives you a document to give it to the HRDC when you apply for the EI. See what code (for the reason of termination) they have checked. Without that, it will be difficult to say for sure.

If the guy was terminated without a cause and if he has worked for certain number of weeks before termination, he should be eligible to receive EI payments.

he was wrking for the same company for about a yr and half..made more than 1500 hrs...i know that u need 900 hours to qualify...and the letter calls ROE( record of Employment).

Oh yes, ROE, look for the code in the ROE. That will answer your question. If he has worked for 1.5 years, no. of hrs to qualify is not an issue. Just look for the code.

Just as a side note : EI is available only when job is terminated by the employer - never when the employee wishes to leave the job!
