Somehow I did not like Garmin (I have a 670). For two reasons

1. When you switch on to acquire the satellites it takes few minutes
2. 2ndly when I took to US (Chicago) It did not show the toll roads and entered (as I following the directions given by the system) the tolls roads without any US change in my pocket. I skipped 5-6 tolls till my destination.

Compared to Tom - Tom. (Which my friend had a basic model)
Acquiring the satellites was immediate
And it asks you if you want to avoid toll-roads.

Thanks Iceberg & Jayram .

Today I happened to visit XS Cargo and saw 2 GPS one COBRA 2100 for 100/- and a NEXTAR GPS for 129 . Please view the following links and help me compare them to TomTom One which is appearing to be an obvious choice .

I have read that if you miss an exit / turn TomTom may tell you to do a U Turn whereas the Cobra may tell you an alternative route ....... wonder if thats true .

The NEXTAR one here has TTS plus mp3 playback . COBRA is refurbished but under original guarantee .

I have been using Tom Tom Third Editions for some time now. I travel a lot and Let me assure you that TOM Tom will also calculate new route and gives you new directions.
It tells you to make 'U' turn only if no alternative left.

Out of these three I will prefer TOM Tom simply because of Map share technology in Tom Tom.

I have zeroed in on these 2 TomTom One GPS versions .

TomTom One 3rd Edition http://reviews.cnet.com/car-gps-navigation/tomtom-one-3rd-edition/4507-3430_7-32654847.html?tag=mncol;rnav

TomTom One 130 http://reviews.cnet.com/car-gps-navigation/tomtom-one-130/4507-3430_7-32976211.html?tag=mncol;rnav

Can people who own TomTom advise which is better of these two ?

3rd edition appears to be better except that the trip computer is 'orignal route ' instead of 'shortest / avoid toll roads ' as in 130 ..... also is the speaker less audible in either ?

Final choice

TomTom One 3rd edition -3.5"(115/-) Tigerdirect
TomTom One 130-3.5" (130/-) Staples online

TomTom One XL -4.3" (150/- ) Tigerdirect

Would go for the XL or 3rd Edition .
