Folks ,

I was thinking of upgrading my GPS .

Whats your opinion on : MAGELLAN ROADMATE 5045-LM ?

Claims to have FREE Lifetime Map Updates as well as FREE Lifetime Traffic Updates .

Currently on @ Canadian Tire for $99.99 /- ....

I would keep away from Magellan. I still have the Magellan (mentioned in my post above from 2009) and have a Garmin 2460LMT (with Lifetime maps and traffic). I just bought Lifetime maps as an add-on for the Magellan. But the Garmin is far better.

Agreed, Garmin is more expensive than Magellan, but you get what you pay for. The new Garmin series 3x have improved traffic (traffic updates more frequently). Infact on my 2460LMT, it even directs me to either the Collectors or Express on 401 within Toronto depending on the traffic conditions.

You can upload custom POI's on the Garmin. Hacked maps are no longer a fancy thing since the ones with Lifetime maps are reasonably priced.

Thank You so much SS . You have saved me from a trip to CT ... Since my original 2008 Tom Tom is still working w/o any problems - I will defer the purchase till summers - as is in winters one travels little ...
