Hi CD Experts. I need your guidance here.
Two things are happening together for me in the near future:
One: I applied for Canadian citizenship in Jan 2008, and I received my acknowledgment letter from CIC yesterday stating that they received my application.
Two: My Indian passport is expiring by the end of March 2008.
My question is divided into 2 parts for clarity:
a) Should I get my Indian passport renewed as quickly as possible, in view of the fact that the CIC checks your original passport at the time of citizenship test to verify days spent out of Canada? Is a valid passport required or should I get my passport renewed ASAP?
b) If I get my passport renewed from Indian High Commission in Ottawa, they ask me to send original Landing papers/PR Card for verifying my presence in Canada. Is that true? Or can I send photocopies? Can someone share their experiences of passport renewal in canada?
Please let me know about all of those points above.
Thanks,
A
Hi aseem_mal
This is what they ask for in Toronto. You can also check their Ottawa web site too.
a)
It is always nice to have a valid Passport. So try and get it done. Even though you know that they are going to cancel the same and return back to you and you have to wait for a long period to obtain the Canadian Passport and then a visa for your travels or the OCI card.
b) Here are the total requirements, also the details in case of emergencies for the renewal, and the guide lines:
Requirements:
1. Application , including Personal Particulars form, duly completed with specimen signatures.
2. Four passport size (3.5cm x 3.5cm) photographs- frontal view against light background.
3. Existing passport in original and photocopies of its relevant pages.
4. PR Card in original and a copy thereof.
5. Fees C$ 65/- (above 15 years of age) and C$ 45 (below 15 years of age). Credit/Debit cards and personal cheques are not accepted. MoneyOrder/Certified cheque drawn in favour of Consulate General of India to be sent in case of applications sent by mail. No Cash Payment is accepted at the Counter.
6. For Lost/Damaged passports requirements are different. Please see separate guidelines.
7. Pre-paid self-addressed return envelope should be submitted with the application and tracking number should be noted by the applicant.
Timings:
8. Applications are accepted between 9.30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
Monday through Friday except holidays.
9. Passports are normally ready in seven working day s time. In case of Emergency, same day service is available on payment of additional fee of C$ 124/-. Emergency passports are issued with validity of one year only.
Hope this clarifies your questions.
Freddie.
Hi Freddie. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.
Can you also tell if I send my original PR card, when and how do I get it back?
Is it possible to bring back the Original PR with me if I simply go to the Passport office in Ottawa and apply in person?
Thanks again.

Hi aseem_mal,
They should give it back to you on the spot after verification.
Even otherwise they have all of the details on file there with them through the cross reference systems, that is available to them.
My visa with Canadian passport left first day in the evening and came back the third noon by FedEx. (I have your PM. I am only allowed one letter per day, OUT.)
That is SERVICE.
Regards,
Freddie
Hi hallo anyone,
I applied for a TRue copy with CIC of my Landing papers 1000/5292 and they send me a verification of landing letter .
OCI/VFS does notaccept the Verification letter. So I called CIC again and send them a letter. They said thats they cannot give the true copy cause the document could not be copied.
Now what has to be done in this case.
I am now unable to process my OCI/ I called the Toronto Consul and they too demanded the true copy of IMM1000/5292
Has anyone had a similar situation, can some one guide me..
