I spent 10 years in Middle east before coming to Canada. In Canada i realised that those 10 years in Gulf was a waste of time. I should have spent those 10 years in Canada and raised my children in Canada.

Midle East was like a Golden Jail. Nice house an dCar and servants. Here in canada my kids do so much activities. Sports. Skating, Swimming and enjoy the nature in winter as well as summer. Socially they can mix with everyone so there upbringing is natural. In gulf it was a Islamic society so it has all its usual problems. The lcoals had a parallel world which did not mix with ours, the climate was horrible. The money i saved in Gulf i would have saved more in Canada by way of Pension, Education funds and equity on my house.

If i had to relive my life i would move to Canada after my graduation in India , do my masters in canada and then live in Canada forever.

Ohh in that sense Latin America and Caribbean are nothing like Gulf. We feel safe, my kids also participate in lot of activities and nature is at abundance here.

Once Chandresh quoted on the board that "I became a millionaire in Canada, earlier I was a multi millionaire" this quote keeps coming to my mind (though I laugh on it but still trying to figure out "is the Sarcasm true???"

Then in that case you guys should stay there and enjoy South America for all it's glory till the kids are of School age. Nothing like exposing kids to the whole world because as we realised in the present economic turmoils that the world is a big village and everything happening anywhere affects everyone else.

Have you guys visited Bogota in Colombia. I stayed there for 10 days. Beautiful country. It has the best Universities and Hospitals in South America. And lots of Tourist places. They have gold and emerald mines too in case your husband wants to work there.

By the way did you straddle the equator in Equador ?

Strange - you feel that way .. maybe its personal perception ..... I spent a similar time in the Gulf ( maybe our places were different ) and though my earnings here are more , I cherish those years spent there : good life , good weather , proximity to home and frequent Indian visits and strong Indian community .... the best of west and East .... only thing it lacked was permanence ....

Exactly - I felt the same way.
Hence my suggestion to take the Equador posting.
In the end, you should do what "feels" right, not creating a balance sheet and making decisions like that.
It never turns out that way anyway - the pros and cons that you list in your balance sheet are speculations.
Realities could be very different.
