Hi Patrick

it was a good link

would you kindly explain the terms uccb ?

Subtract: Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB) income claimed by you, your spouse or your common-law partner (line 117 on your tax return or the tax return of your spouse or common-law partner)

Add: Repayment of UCCB (line 213 on your tax return or the tax return of your spouse or common-law partner)

i add zero in both is it ok?

UCCB is an universal benefit paid to families caring for children since 2006 (I believe).
Unlike CCTB, the amount is fixed $100 per month per child.
Also, unlike CCTB, it is taxable.
However, UCCB income is not considered when determing CCTB amounts.

Go for professional daycare where they have good activites for kids.

Regarding returning back to work, you will need to think long-term since you will have to start from scratch if you quit now and try to return back a few years later.

Also consider the possibility of your job growth ( career growth and financial/pay growth). Does working fulltime add value to your life? Does that job help you live a better personal life? (I'm not talking about $s at all)
Sometime it even good choice to pay your complete salary for day care, considering this as an investment for your career growth.

Besides this, increasing your saving by $1 every week might have different meaning and priority for each individual.

I'd pay more attention to the "Job/Individual Growth" factor.

I concur with what rajcanada says. Depending on your occupation, if you wish to return to work even after a year, you have a gap on your resume. If it is even longer, it is not impossible for you to return, but you will have to ensure you maintain updated skills, either technical, or else read professional journals/join assocations etc, to ensure you keep abreast of what is going on.

I'm a mother of twins and was in the same dilemma when my kids were born. I was too emotional to leave my kids at home, money was not the factor for which I decided to continue work. I decided cause finding good jobs is tough, my job is prestigious and gives me immense satisfaction. As a child while growing up we also worked hard and made sure we do something constructive in our lives....right...that's what out parents wished for and we also wanted it.

Babies grow very fast, within the blink of your eyes, your baby will start play school, then KG (trust me it goes very fast) so its just a question of few years when they are really small.

My kids are 5 yrs now (still small) but since day one know, Mumma/PaPa works for them, it is hard work, and even though they are just 5 respect money and time. It is a balance you'll have to create at home and work. If you have inlaws or elders who can help, I'll suggest having them with you for few months. My mom in law came here 7 yrs ago and never went back, the kids love her so much and I know they are in good hands. For kids both of us adjusted to the joint family situation and I don't regret it either.

Hope this helps a bit and yes congratultions on the birth of your baby...Enjoy them as they grow very fast!

Take care.....................Jona

If you are going back to work. Consider to keep your child in a government recognised daycare centre. Our daughter has been to daycare since she was 1 year old and its well worth the money spend. We were paying 1200/- a month in Mississauga, but was worth it. You can go to work in peace and are confident that your child is looked after the way you want it to. I would not suggest to keep your child with the neighbourhood basement / house daycares there they do not have activities like the govt. daycares. Everythings on a schedule, no TV, fixed sleep / nap times, creative games where your child would learn and be challanged mentally and physically time after time rather than "beta TV dekho" attitude.
