Hi CDs,

I got my immigration (in Dec 2007) under arranged opinion of employment but could not start the job in time due to contractual obligations with my previous employer outside canada. I have lost that job and still have some employment outside Canada.

With my immigration visa there was an additional sheet of information which among other general things said that to maintain PR status I should not be outside canada for more than 730 days in a 5 year period. Where as the website and the information sheet which I received with the PR card says that one can stay up to a maximum of 3 years outside canada in a 5year period.

I am confused. How do I get the correct information as I need it for future planning purposes.

Grateful for proper advice.

What is confusing you? The information on the sheet is the SAME as the information on the web site. Read once again and do the math!

The confusion is that as per the sheet I can only stay outside canada for 2 years to maintain my PR and as per the website I can stay outside canada for 3 years in a 5 year period.

You are confusing yourself.
The sheet and the website say the same thing.
You need to be present in Canada for at least 730 days (i.e. 2 years) in every 5 years period.
So you may stay out for the other 3 years.

The sheet I was sent together with visas from Canadian Highcommission in Pretoria in part under Permanent Resident Status reads:

PERMANENT RESIDENT STATUS

"Until you obtain Canadian Citizenship, your permanent resident status may be revoked if you are outside Canada for more than 730 days within 5 years, except in certain circumstances."

Does it mean that there are 2 sets of rules for Landed Immigrants? My PR Card shows the category as SW1 and is valid for 5 years.

Where do you see the separate sets of rules?
Residency obligations are the same for everyone.
If you are referring to the "except in certain circumstances" phrase, those circumstances are explained in the link I provided earlier.
