Hi Cd's,

Let me first thank all of you for sharing their experiences and giving advices to so many people like me.

A short infor about my case:

My mother had applied for 4 times visit visa from india and was denied in every attempt. Latest was when she applied in dec 2008 from US (she has a 10 yr US visa) and was denied again making it 5 times denial for the same usual reasons...

In june 2009 she visited my aunt who is in Washington DC nad last week i went there and decided to apply a visa for her from US. Took all my documents and my husband's as well and already had photocopies of my mom's small property papers and a small bank balance of hers in india for around Rs. 1 lakh. Other than this she has nothing since am the only daughter and i send money form here for her and my dad.

Took all the documents and went to the Canadian Embassy in DC and submitted the application at 9:00 am. I did not take my mom as it was not needed there since any1 can represent the case on behalf of the applicant.
Paid $65 and waited for 2 hours. At 11:00 am, the window where all the documents were submitted, My number was called and i went there and she handed me all the documents along with my mom's passport which had a single entry visa stamped for 1 month. Thats it no interview with the officer.

I was excited since this was the 6th attempt. I took her to the Buffalo border and handed them her passport and the lady officer asked me how long she wants to stay and i said for 3-4 months and she smiled and just stamped July 7th date on the passport and gave it back.

My question is:
According to the CIC WEbsite a person can stay upto 6 months from the date of entry in canada.

Does this apply to my mom as well since she just has a stamp with july 7th date and nothing is written next to it.

Please advice..

Sorry to all who find this story of mine redundant or boring.

The validity of visa means you can enter the country with that period, one month in your mother's case. Status (duration of legal stay) is decided upon at the port of entry by the immigration officer and is usually 6 months, unless otherwise mentioned.

And FYI, a single entry visa doesn't mean she can only enter the country only once. It rather means she can use just one port of entry to enter the country multiple times, within the validity of the visa.

Enjoy the summer with your mom!

Just one clarification.....

Single entry Canadian visa is valid for multiple entries when entering from the US as long as the visa is valid at the time of entry. Port of entry should not matter as long as it is between US and Canada.

One cannot enter Canada multiple times using single entry visa if entering from any other country.

As the previous poster stated, duration of stay is determined by the port of entry officer.

This is true for any travel - including air travel.

This means she can stay for 6 months starting from July 7.

Port of entry does not matter. The single entry cdn visa can be used as a multiple entry visa for travel between US and Canada (within the validity of that visa).
