Recently sent the application form for my in-laws and This is what I sent (as per their asking and much more)
1. Employment letter
2. Invitation letter (compulsory- Notarised preffered)- Buying of medical insurance, Flight tickets optional
3. Latest pay slip
4. Filled in application form, Checklist and USe of representative form
5. Letter from MP (will help a lot but I did not use it / send it)
6. Bank statements for 6 months
7. Status about your immigration (passport copy)
8. Proof that you are related to your mother (in my case, I used the Indian passport at the end of which it names your father / mother)

From your mother's end :
1. Her pension statements (if any)
2. 2 year statement of her filing Income tax
3. Letter from employer if she is working
4. Statement of her wealth , immovable assets
5. Anything to show that she has to come back (like son / daughter in India, work in India etc...)
6. Letter from MP / Police (optional)

You canot hide any info. from the Canadian visa officers and so better be point blank.
Also it is supposed to be a cake walk if you apply for Visitor's visa in USA and no documents are needed. My parents got visa from USA in 2006 and they just gave their passport (+ all of my documentation). We applied at Buffalo and it seems that the Canadian visa officer there did not even look at my parents when he was issuing the visa.

Peace by TK

saying that "since my mother in law will be visiting her sister who lives in US, i would like to invite her during holidays for say 2 months. and also that " I have already sponsored her and attached is the acknowledgement letter from cic"

she is vouching on it saying that we have to do this in order to get visa..

now tell me is the affidavit ok?

meh - if your consultant believes this is important, then you have to go by her experience and expertise in this matter.
To me, this is volunteering too much information.
They already know that your MIL has been sponsored (because she will indicate on her form).
Saying the same thing on the letter is redundant, volunteering information and indicates immigration intent, which is usually not good.

But then these things have no rhyme or reason.

My MIL's application was rejected the twice for no apparent reason (even with MP's recommendation letter).

Third time she got it although there was no change in any of the documents either from her side or my side.

one more simple question.. my mothers name is Shameem but is spealt in the letter as Shameen , is it possible that i change it with black pen the n to m? will there be any prb?
Don't overwrite on a notarized letter.
Either leave it as is or prepare a new letter.
I don't think one letter misspelt in an invitation letter should cause a problem - it's not the passport for example.
If you are still feeling unsettled, do a new letter.

BTW, don't bother with MP's letter - MP's are dime a dozen and CHCs abroad don't give a flying rat's a** about them.

Pratick,
I would disagree with you on that one. It does have some very solid effect. I know a lot of cases in which the MP's letter played a role in getting the visitor's visa. Some MP's also call CIC New Delhi personally and follow up on the application. The advantage is that it is Free and very easy to get. A friend of ours took Timbits to the MP after their mother got the Visa. The MP refused the timbits and told them that they canot accept anything in return.
However, a pregnancy note from a doctor MAY NOT have any effect on the visa officer in New Delhi.

Samna :
I fogot to include your T4 and notice of asssement from the CRA as a list of documents that you need to send to support your application. if you are self employed , you can photo copy the cheque that you receive as proof of your latest pay slip.
VFS charges some Rs 3025 for Sinlge entry visa which is paid in Cash or as instructed on the VFS website. They charge extra for your passport to be couriered to your house.

Hope this helps

Peace

I, similarly, know of a lot of cases where it no effect whatsoever on the outcome of the case, including my own experience a few years ago.

In chatting with other people over the years, I have gathered that consulates abroad receive hundreds of such MP letters every day and it means nothing to them.
Part of the reason could be that the MP only goes by what you tell them - they do not know you personally and neither do they know the visa applicant abroad personally.
As a result, they cannot vouch for either of the parties.
The consulates know that and do not attach much important to such letters of recommendation.

Also, an individual, small-town MP has no authority or power over consulates.

It is possible, but I think this applies more to immigration/refugee cases, more than simple visit visas.

In immigration cases where elderly relatives are involved or there are humaitarian grounds, I can see this happening and it makes sense too.
But for regular visit visa cases, I don't think it makes any difference.

A consulate like New Delhi must be getting over a thousand visit visa requests every day, and quite a few of them are accompanied by MP recommendations.
I suspect they simply toss those away.

I would like to hear from folks who applied on their own, got refused, then applied with MP's letter and got approved /without/ any other changes to their application.

I just don't hear such cases often enough to prove that MP's recommendation has any significant impact on the outcome of cases.
