There are many technical support positions in Ontario...which are always hiring. If you are in IT, it is not a bad way to get your foot in the door. It's better than doing labour jobs. You will be at a great advantage if you know French.

dear friends,

french is not only needed for getting a job, it is more helpful in daily life also.

can we think of reasons why did we learnt english ?? is the job only motive to learn english.

also, we cannot learn french overninght. it will requires months or years to be an expert, but i have got feedback that one can get basic knowldge in about six months..

the question is ::

is the effort and time to be put in learning french worth its fruits???

In six months...not really... unless you do what Chris suggested in another thread. Do a search for username 'Chris'.

I've studied french under a company sponsored pprogram for about a year. We were not reimbursed(inorder to prevent abuse of the program) until we passed the quarterly exams which I did. Let me tell you that I have no hope of banking on my knowledge in French to get a job. I CAN read a french newspaper and understand. My wife speaks and understands french much better than me...having learnt it in school, univ, alliance-france(sp?) and then here again. Since she does not use the language she is far from being in the position to get a job with her knowledge of the language.

On the other hand my daughter speaks much better French than either of us...if it were not for her age...she would probably make it into the govt service :-). So if you are immersed in it by virtue of daily usage...you have hope.

Let me cut the crap and come straight to the point
1. learning French is VERY difficult. You will need one year at least of full time studies, 8 hours a day, vigorus home work as well. NO EXCEPTIONS. if you want to do it, do it properly.
2. French is VERY useful if you want to tech support or apply for govt jobs. I know of SEVERAL people who found jobs because they new French, even not very well.

Hi all,

I feel with the replies we have got till know it is certain that there is no harm in learning french. Off course it dependes upon the individual how much gains can he get after learning french.

still all of you are invited to express more views on the subject.
