My son went to daycare since he was 8 months old until he began kindergarten last Sep.

Cons - be prepared for your child to get sick quite often for the first few months until she builds up the immunity against the daycare plague. Younger the child, worse it is. In your case, it shouldn't be that bad, nevertheless, the risk of her getting sick is there. This will disrupt your work days as you may have to keep the child home.

Pros - the child tends to build up great social skills, independence, language, behaviour and helps become less and less inhibitive. Depending on the daycare, they might teach academic curriculum. My son learned French in his daycare and started french immersion public school with prior knowledge of French vocabulary. In another daycare he attended, they taught him sign language for the most basic things such as "I want more", "water" and so on. This was when he was under 16 months.

You may also want to determine if your future earnings will be well above what you would spend on the daycare. Otherwise, there are no benefits from economic point of view.

my opinion is that if you can afford to stay at home then do.
since you have been staying home for 3 years, i assume you can get by with your current household income level.
what is the point of making more money if you will only end up paying more tax and spending more on child care.
daycare expenses are tax deductible but a lot of other extra expenses are not like having a second car.
dimple is right about the con of child getting sick very often.
i think it may be worse than what he said. it doesn't stop after a few months.
i see kids that have been going to day cre for years still get sick all the time.
one option is to wait until child starts school.
then you can enroll child in the Ontario after school extended day care program and then go back to work.
it is cheaper than private day care
purely from a financial point of view add up all your expenses, multiply by your income's tax rate (after deducting write off for day care) and compare against your expected income, then decide.
example:
gas : $200
extra insurance : $100
extra maintenance : $100
eating out : $200
formal attire : $100
day care : $800
and so on.
say it comes to $2000 extra per month.
say your income is $48,000 after daycare deduction . i.e. $4000 gross.
total tax rate is 31.15% so you are left with approx. $33000
after taking out all expenses of $24000 you will be left with $9000 for the year.

decide whether it is worth for you

best wishes

Go back to work or higher studies. Try to get your parents and inlaws from India so that in case child is not well then it can stay at home.

seriously? so you want to use your parents or parents in-laws as free baby sitters?
and for how long? 1 year, 2 years, 3 years?
something about this idea abhors me totally.
if you wanna enhance your educational qualifications or make money by working pay for it on your own and not by using your parents as free day care

Its part of Indian culture (for the most of India - not sure about your family background)
Our parents grew up with their grand parents.
We grew up with our grand parents.
Would you not help your son/daugher by baby sitting their kids (your grand kids) ???
I don't see any thing wrong in that.

Who said free ? You can pay them . Atleast you will have a family member taking care of the child during emergencies.
