Hello CDs,

I see a number of queries coming in from the UAE - various types - people wanting an initial place to stay, schools, jobs, etc.

We are all logging in everyday, from the same geographical area, looking in for the same answers. We all have the same concerns, the same anxiety.

I think it would be good to have all 'movers' meet at a place in Dubai- knowing the proximity here.

Not only can crucial information be passed on from one another - it will be good to make some new friends - making the transition easier - into the unknown.

What do you think?

Pat

Hey Choco,

Great to know you're moving in April...we're moving in April as well.

Are you landing or going for good??

I've already touched based with Varturam, that makes 3 people game for a meet.

Anybody out there from UAE who wanna meet??

My mobile number is 050 4519924.

Varturam, Choco, would a week day be good for a meeting or a weekend. I know Varturam is off this thursday, correct?

Pat

some tips to enjoy canada.

please do not leave your job and come. You have to start from scratch here.
without canadian education, experience and reference you won't get job easily. (unless you are from software industries).

Take leave for say 1-2 months and have the option of returning to your job.

You will have to survive without job or without car / luxuries almost say 1-2 years if you don't get job.

There are no home deliveries of groceries/or for that matter anything. You have to go and bring everything, so if you have small children be prepared to have tough life. You cannot leave children alone, you will lose custody of the child, if you are caught. You cannot beat children. They have ways of finding out in school and if your child tells that he is beaten, expect counsellors at your door step warning you only once and after that, you will lose custody of the child.

take your apartment of accomodation close to facilities so, that one can have easy life to the extent possible.

When people tell life is tough in canada, please believe them because they are telling you from their own experience.

Nothing is free in canada. They tell free education for children, CCTB, Free healthcare. Mind you these facilities are given to you through your tax.

Bring enough money/funds to survive here for one year. (approx $2000 pm minimum).

We in Gulf are used to high life style. Don't expect that in canada.Majority of the gulf people return to gulf because of this.

Try to be adventurous and enjoy your stay in canada. (read as much as possible about canada i.e Toronto star, canadiandesi.com esp Articles column.)
