A friend of mine, who is an Indian citizen (and on a US green Card, awaiting his citizenship), wants to apply for his permanent residency. He qualifies under the "point system" and has a brother in Canada who is a (Canadian) citizen.
Will someone who has gone this route, please tell me, what the time line is between filing the application, and getting permanent residency? I realize that time-lines are approximate and can change, depending on situations.
Thanks in advance for your inputs!

Thank you G 13 for the reply.
I checked with a certified immigration consultant, who had both good and \"not so good news\" about the situation concerning my friend.
First the \"bad\" news: The number of categories (occupations) under which one can immigrate to Canada has dwindled to 29. There are no IT occupations in the list. The person I was writing about, is an ORACLE DBA with 13 years experience and an ORACLE 8 I Certification. So the doors on this route are closed.
That leaves him with two options only.
Plan A : He (the friend I mentioned earlier) has to come to Canada from the US on a work permit, work for Two years and then apply for immigration - He is 50 and so it would be treading on thin ice, age wise when he applies for immigration - so the immigration consultant tells me.
Plan B: This is the one that seems to be very practical, and the one that seems to be the best one. My friend has to get \"arranged employment\", which has to be approved by HRDSC before Citizenship canada can process his application. The average time for the processing is about One year
The \"arranged employment\" is a binding contract between his prospective employer and him. The employer essentially tells the HRDSC that he is offering full time employment to my friend in the field of his specialization based on his education, and skills.
There are conditions attached to the offer - that it is a offer by a genuine company with at least one full time employee and one year in business. Proof of incorporation, payroll deductions to revenue Canada etc are required before it is approved by HRDSC.
If any of my friends in the Canadian desi community knows of a company that can help my friend out, that would be awesome. He is a green card holder who wants to immigrate to Canada. If you are aware of companies that circulate resumes among their clients and can help in the \"arranged employment process, please write or send a pm,
He has done Oracle Certification in 8i (OCP) & SkillDrill DBA Certification. He has worked in the US since 1998. If anyone might be interested, I can send his resume.
I would be grateful for any information, inputs, suggestions or experiences that would help him at this time.
Thanks in advance for your inputs.
