Seniors CD's,
As job seach/requirement in Canada is entirely different from India and our qualification and experience in India is not very relevant for getting a job in Canada at same level which we left in India. Can you all please help me or any new immigrant and provide tips for making a resume as per Canadian requirements. I have 10+ years of banking experience primarily into Collection/Receivable department. On searching the net I find several jobs in collections but as I have been a regular member in this forum and basis all senior cd's experience and suggestions to others, I can make out that getting a job in Canada is not very easy. It is better if I start sending a my resume from India to several employers and see if I get any response from them.
Can you please provide tips for making a resume specifically for collection related jobs?

DELHI INDIAN
If you google for sample resumes, you'll find quite a number of them that would be helpful for you to use as a template.
A simple format is a reverse chronological order format where you start with your most recent employment and work your way back to the start. Education, other skills, certifications, etc come at the end.
While email, address and a phone number is required, no other personal data needs to be included.
For one, I would recommend not using the phrase - "having xxx experience". The usage of "having" is common in India and is considered incorrect usage here.
The attitude of "me" and "I" is more favored than "we" and "us". It demonstrates your ability to take ownership, leadership and the reins of the task and projects.
Accomplishments in terms of a tangible measure is also looked upon favorably. In other words, instead of repeating the job description of your position, you should state few tasks / projects that you completed in terms of time, money or other quantifiable measure.
Hope this helps.

Similar to what Dimple2001 said about not using "having xxxx years experience" make sure overall that the English you use sounds like Canadian English. One of this biggest barriers to employment for newcomers is employers concerns that newcomers have communication problems. Accents and unfamiliar terminology are often mistaken for lack of command of the langauge. This is unfair but you can try to help yourself by having a native Canadian English speaker or long time resident with fluent use of the language check over your resume. Once you are in Canada there are several free employment centres where someone can do this for you, but some of the workers may not always offer the best advice and the quality of these centres varies greatly so look for a very reputable place. I'm sorry I don't have any specific names to offer, I worked in a related field previously but not for an employment or settlement agency.
If you decide to submit a resume while you are still in India make sure you are already legally able to work in Canada. Employers are looking for people who are easy to hire, especially if they have already posted a job ad. I would suggest using a Canadian address and phone number if possible. You can get a local number and attach voicemail to that account, and maybe you could use a friend or relative's address. I'm not encouraging you to lie - if asked you could say you are not currently in the country but wanted to include your Canadian contact info since you were searching for a job in Canada. I have a Canadian friend who was searching for a job in Toronto from British Columbia and she did not start getting calls until she included a local Toronto phone number on her resume.

Thanks Dimple2001 and Portia for your response. This is really helpful to all the new immigrants.
Also, if I have multiple experience, should I mention detailed job description of all my previous jobs or detailed job descrption of most recent employment is enough? In India we have a habit of making large resume mentioning all previous work experiences in detail.
Please suggest.
