Why dont we have an option to delete our own posts?

and that is the use of edit key. wipe out everything and then fill in something more "useful"

True, but in some cases People have quoted you many times, so even if you wipe out yours it is still there....unless everybody wipes theirs ( ;) ).

I think you should only have the privilege of wiping your own. :D. You can only wipe it, not remove it altogether.

One of the main reasons for not allowing people to delete their own posts was that if people delete an originating post of their own, all the responses to that are orphaned and deleted as well. Also now that the delete feature is not available, people may put some more thought into their authoring before posting (maybe I'm being too optimistic here :p )

So yeah, delete is not supported. Use the edit option like Guru suggested if you must.

Well, It should be....freedom of wiping is not enough. IMHO.:D
