I was reading Metro Today and i found that a company has asked for people who are willing to take trial medication. The compensation was $790 and the trial period was 3 days. The people were to be 18-55 years of age and not being on too much of medication.
I feel that i fit into the catagory and i feel that $790 in just 3 days is just a steal.
Has any CD ungone any sort of particiaption in clinical trials. Are participants insured in any way , in case the medication given gives of any sort of fatal side effects (can it happen, anyways?).
I look forward to the answers of RajCanada and Pratickm whom i feel have vast knowledge in this line.

By doing so, you will be an experiment object for the clinic. But it's all upto you. I am not sure if you will be insured or not, but by reading these ads everyday in Metro or 24 there are bound to be some side effect. I don't think it's a really good or just a medium of making money. Talk to your family Doctor before taking any such step - a friendly suggestion to you.

Thanks for the compliment, TK :)
I don't know your financial situation (or your health situation), but most of these "trials" involve experimental medication in its early stages of testing, yet to be approved by the FDA, etc.

These trails are conducted by pharmaceutical companies who are hoping to get positive results by hook or by crook so that they can convince the FDA to approve their drug.

They will make you sign all sorts of waivers and disclaimers so that even if your health gets jeopardised (sometimes permanently), you won't be able to bring a lawsuit.

That said, it depends on what the drug is, what conditions it attempts to treat and what your health condition is.

In some cases, they may be quite harmless.

If you prefer, you can post or PM the above details and someone can provide a more informed opinion.

In general, it is best to stay away from these unless someone is in desperate need to cash.
And even then it's best to consult a physician first.

Esp. for a new immigrants because the last thing a new immigrant needs is to fall sick soon after coming to a new country.

Hi TK

Why am I not surprised to get such an email from you. I totally agree with you. It is a steal . Go ahead and sign up for it and be rich.

Also you can get a lot of $$ by donating kidney/organs etc . I think you should go ahead and do that too and take a lot of risks for making $$. It is all well worth it.

Hee ! Hee !

Smiley,
I was expecting brick bats but never thought that it would be from you.
After reading the post by PatrickM, I came to the conclusion that it was not worth it, given the fact that I could not find a family doctor (for advise in this regard) in the past 5+ years that I have been here and also due to the fear of side effects.
Upon my death ( if at all in Canada), I have given OHIP permission for them to use my organs for research/ transplantation free of charge.
Hope your are satisfied now with the pleasure of having insulted me.

TK

I am sorry but I think your statement warranted some sort of response. Its all about the 'steal' and 'easy money' ?

Is it always all about the money?

Making money is never easy. Even if it seems 'easy'..it carries a great price.
