Hi,
My husband, a hardcore Desi, has instill in me a need to do something good for India/in India. His own project.. Help the Children!.

So we have started checking out ideas to start a small Orphanage. We plan to ensure there is food, shelter, clothing and education for these orphans....... a small but ambitious project.. and the big challenge is to keep it within our own means ........

We would be glad of ideas, where to set up, suggestions, advices, please feel free to give your thoughts -
Have u felt a need of something like this in your area? - give us your suggestions so we can look into it more deeper.....

:(

Though not exactly what you have asked for , a friend of mine informed me of a charitable creed of schools for under privileged children where for , you can sponsor a child for an year of education , books , uniform etc. They go by the name of ... check below ..

Whatever you do , please keep in mind that donating / doing charity is half the job , the other half is to see that the donation meets its objectives ... There are vultures every where .

-----
an email excerpt - please google for more info

This school run by the organization called Shiksha Bharti, which runs hundreds of similar schools across the country, caters to the underprivileged sections. In an attempt to give back to the nation, though only in part, what I derive from it, I have instituted two annual scholarships in this school , wherein two children get books, stationery & uniform for one academic year. This costs me somewhere between 4 & 5 thousand. The selection of the candidates I leave to the school administration, at which I know them to do a good job. Last year two girls of class VI were chosen, one of them comes from a very poor family and the father of the other was injured in a road accident and has been rendered invalid.

It is a great cause.

Any city / town in India needs such services. Initially, you may choose a small city, where you think you will get more help from like minded people and get into this venture. Lot of funds and volunteers required to run it professionally. Also you need marketing funds for the success and growth. Once you get the feel of running one center ... you can expand to other cities after raising lot of funds.

ashedfc is 100% correct.

It will be fine when you are small and spends most of the time on it. When more people join and money starts pouring the organization gets complex and you should decide the style of management that works and suits you and helps to achieve organizational goals. Anyway you can't avoid it ... its is a part of the game.

Good point by Ashedfc, starting on own like an orphanage is a tough ask and may not be sustainable particularily when you are away form the country. Difficulties will be so many that over the years you may have not so positive view point about doing charity.

I will ask venrasq and her husband to try following websites and be sure that your money/help is channelised correctly..you can access their annual report online and can make a visit in India to the places where money is going.

CRY : http://www.cry.org/apps/donation.aspx

UNICEF India: https://www.supportunicefindia.org/Donation/SupportUS.aspx

GIVEINDIA : http://www.giveindia.org/c-51-children.aspx

When I was in India I never gave money to any shrine, rather I was always visiting the institutes which were accomodating helping and caring challenged people. I could personnaly see stuff happening so was satisfied to give moeny/clothes/fans, appliances/furniture.

PINGALWARA ( http://www.pingalwara.net/ ) is one institution I know does its diligence for handicaps. Have been visiting them. There is All India Pingalwara Charitable Society as well there is Pingalwara Society of Ontario.

Those are the few of charities I am sure your help will Reach to people in need.
Its a Noble thought on your part. all the best.

VENRASQ,

We need to applaud you for two of your thoughts.

1. Giving back to India.

2. An orphanage to be set up.

Best Wishes & God Bless!.
