Hello Desis,
How bad is the Canadian Winter?...Especially for those migrating from Dubai?
My husband, who was raised in Mumbai is very skeptical about the Canadian winter....and I being from Delhi would like to believe that I have some idea about winters, however I know that I cannot compare that with the great Canadian winters...I want to know how does your day to day living get affected during the snows and what do kids have to cope with during the winter season.
This issue is turning out to be a tough contender in our decision to migrate next year!!!
You get used to it easily as like million of residents of Toronto area. You would have the same gripes about the stark summer of UAE in winter here and you'll feel very positive about the summer as you feel in the winter here.
If weather is even a topic, I would just ignore it but are there other factors you're counting on such as Dubai is not being able to offer Green card or citizenship. I have pretty extended family in Middle east esp.., in Dubai who all feel the same esp.., when their kids need to go to college....
Many of my colleagues long for winter here to snow-mobiling and array of other sporting activities.. I see them saying same for summer. I think fall and spring are waiting games for many.

WINTER SEASON IN TORONTO -
Heated houses, heated Cars , heated public transports, heated offices, heated shopping malls and swimming pools and play areas... at the most 15-20 days of snow ( i love those days provided no breeze and I missed those few days in this year's winter), lot of festivity, shopping options, supposedly white christmas. oh yes, one issues is that you will miss few sessions of golf , sorry for that ! do some ski !
Just wear few clothes, will you ?
Where is the pain ?? I'll rather be scared of sunburns in summer.
Have you considered Vancouver? It gets way less snow and the winters are generally mild. However, on the flip side, there are more wet days(rain) and hence no sun for the most part of the winters. At times, it takes toll as you start craving for Sun. But, the summers are more beautiful than anywhere else in Canada. Job market is little tight as compared to the Greater Toronto Area though. Even house prices in decent neighbourhoods within suburbs are way way over the roof if you compare with the GTA. But, there are many people who buy houses there and are doing alright. Depands more on your job.
For a mild weather, Vancouver is the destination. Please conduct a due research on all the other factors as well.
Thank you all for the replies. Each of you have given us good points and suggestions to consider.
You could also just stay in Dubai.
Or anywhere in Asia.
We, Desis aren't that welcome here in Canada. Only a few Kool-Aid drinking leftards are happy about all this "diversity". I don't like what this country is turning into.
And don't get me started about the winter. Brr!
I'm considering moving back to the land of my ancestors and my Gods. You should too.
What's your story Ronytoma ?
