I have been going over several posts and have observed the deep polarization between those who think that Canadian immigration is a dream gone sour and those that think that immigration was the best thing to happen to them. I have observed and watched the war between the two sides. And it has indeed made me very worried!
In my opinion, all these overt exchanges and posts, both negative and positive, should not be allowed on the board. It is wrong, immoral and even sinful in a way, to discuss or give unrestrained personal opinions on a public message board, on sensitive and delicate issues like job prospects, opportunities, odds and chances of failures or success for potential immigrants etc. etc.
IMO the board, should strongly desist from posts that in any way convey personal views, opinions, experiences etc, IRRESPECTIVE of whether the experiences were good or bad, but that in any way have the potential of influencing the decision making process of immigrants especially with regard to their job prospects and future chances of success in this country. It is important to realize how serious a potential for damage is created by posts of the type that express opinions of individuals in this extremely critical territory. It is very possible that after exposure to these posts that speak good/bad about immigration, a naive and unsuspecting immigrant may get sufficiently influenced to affect or alter his/her decision of moving to Canada. It could happen that an immigrant who until now was hopeful of getting a job after immigration, and who possibly would have only if he had moved, changes his mind and drops out after reading the “negative” posts. By the same token imagine someone who until now has only been toying with the idea of immigration but now gets carried away by the positive posts, becomes over confident, chucks away everything and lands up in Canada only to realize that he has managed to ruin his life. Because of the gravity of the consequences, opinions on these matters should be reserved until expressly requested by individuals, and even then the exchange of information, offer of advice or narration of personal experiences, whatever, should be maintained at the level of the participants only.
Since every individual is different, and there is no common yardstick that can be applied to all, it is essential that all potential immigrants judge prospects for their future on their own merit, develop and use deductive logic most suitable for themselves, conduct their own research, talk to others and learn from experiences if they have to but ensuring that it is done at a personal level, use rationale and intellect, and not be misled by individual stories of either success or failures!
Last but not least, it is the responsibility of this board to eschew posts that are qualitatively aligned either way, and have the slightest potential of influencing people’s decisions on matters as serious as immigration. It is a dangerous and unethical game played unknowingly by unsuspecting players that could claim the futures of unsuspecting victims and is equally bad for both sides. Please stop these overt discussions, before you have the blood of people’s ruined lives on your hands.

relax dude!
The people who are reading do have their own reasoning abilities. The play of positive and negative ensures that people read both sides and then align themselves with the viewpoints they most identify with, thereby helping them in their decision process.

Doing nothing is not exactly a solution! The stock market goes up and down(and people have lost lives due to the same)...thats not enough reason to pull the plug and kill the stock market.

Do I sense sarcasm here, dude? :D

Is this post a result of me asking people to post more responsibly (rather than not post at all) because there are those who may be depending on this info.?

And if you're being serious, what's your suggestion? Let's hear it.

the site was created for the specific purpose of educating a prospective or a new immigrant about life in Canada based on personal experiences of its members who are voluntary contributors. This was also created to exchange views mainly regarding life in Canada and immigrantion of south asians to Canada because they are very delicate issues and such exchange of views does help an individual take his decisions based on his own understanding of each contribution. It provides a broader perspective than an individual can otherwise have from his knowledge (or lack of it) and resources.

This site is one of the mediums for conducting researches for both intending as well as already landed immigrants. If this site had been there when I decided to migrate, most probably, I wouldn't have migrated and saved myself tons of money and heartbreak. At the same time, if not for this site, I might have decided to return home without getting guidance from other desis as to how to fight it out. So it has been a great site providing absolutely original experiences rather than a result posted by doing a silly survey with pre-authorised questions and limited answers to the same.

I don't understand why you insist on having this match of "positive" vs "negative" on the board? It makes interesting reading for those who are already into the game perhaps, but for those who are still outside, it can play havoc.
J3D, you believe that people have their own reasoning abilities. And you are so certain and damned smug sure that all those guys sitting thousand of miles away, most of whom have never set foot outside their country, will be able to apply their reasoning abilitiy and take unbiased, and pragmatic decisions despite the contradictory posts on this board.
I really wonder what real purpose is being achieved by having posts on the issues that I mentioned. I have already said, that those who do feel the need to ask opinions and advice, already have the option of using PMs. Other than influence the non initiated, and run the risk of being an active partner in pushing them into doing something that turns out to be a disaster for them, what else is being achieved in tangible terms?
I repeat, tomorrow if someone ends up making his life a mess and considers the the posts on CD that were in someway responsible for him having taken decisions that led to the disaster, how comfortable would the administrators of this board and you feel with that? No doubt, neither the members on the board nor the administrators would be responsible in any legal sense, but would you able to sleep with a clear conscience knowing that perhaps your comments and statements were in some way, maybe even partially, responsible for the plight of this person who neither knew you nor met you, but yet he relied on your input and took your words for granted, positive or negative, whatever??? It is almost criminal in my opinion! For God's sake, wake up and stop playing with people's lives for the sake of your petty entertainment!!

What if tomorrow someone says just the opposite - that had it not been for this site, I would not have come to Canada? How much of a moral responsibility will the site share for that person's situation?

I don't think you are being entirely honest here. I am sure people who had to go back have done so despite having visited this site.

And quite possibly has been successful in totally confusing, at least some prospective immigrants.
I still feel that this site, and only because it allows posts of the type I have mentioned, may eventually end up doing more bad than good in some cases. And that is wrong! Totally wrong!! It is a wrong issue to dabble in!
Please see around yourself? Are their any sites similar to this for any of the other ethnic communities? Are there sites like this that allow posts on such subjects in the US or anywhere else? None perhaps! And that is for a reason!! You might do good but you might also end up harming someone! You have the choice of doing good for someone, but you don't have the right to play a role in something that could hurt someone even involuntarily in anyway!
