hi guyz,
I am one of those whose decision was deeply influenced by the postings on this site........ Well, maybe i should use the word 'guided' instead of 'influenced". Its always useful to listen to both negative and positive aspects about anything to make an intelligent decision.
So far so good, but the problem arises when this discussion which starts with people contributing their experiences goes on a tangent throwing the actual topic on the backburner. At times, actually, pretty frequently, it becomes very personal and people who log on eager to see their questions and queries answered find so called educated people in big time mudslinging bout and none ready to relent calling each other names and making fun of each other on public forum.

Its very exciting to find a thread in the forum archive with a subject for which you had always wanted information but didnt know where to go, and more exciting to see about 50+ posts for the thread, only to be followed by utter irritation when u realise that only first couple of posts made some real sense and the rest were all people settling their personal scores.

I am sure all this must have scared or offended a lot many people away from here.......

Anway, no one can tell anyone what to do or what not to do ... its for every member to behave like responsible contributors, understanding and responding depending on the seriousness of the topic being discussed.

Cheers,
JSethi

As I already mentioned, it is entirely upto board owners to decide how a particular board is used.
If they prefer it is this way, then that is what is going to be.
Also I have mentioned already that there are hardly any Indians in India who would just throw away their visa becuase of some losers on this board talking about negative things while themselves living here all the time.
There are many who will be confused or disspapointed but in the end there is way too much corruption, dust, pollution, competition and lack of future in most of 3rd world countries for any one to decide to forgo any opportunity to migrate.
There is certainly a need for more message boards where immigrants can help each other. But then again, are desis ready to accept responsibility and come up to the occasion?

DiogenestheCynic,
It is unfair to not let the people know about the real scenario in canada.

Agreed! BUT please, restrict that only to HIM who specifically requests your consultation. Let that exchange be between the inquirer and the counselor. Go ahead and send all your views, impressions, and experiences to him by PM. Let him then continue his exchange on PM. That way you and him would have achieved what you wanted, the seeker having got what he was looking for from several helpful consultants and the consultants feeling satisfied at having helped out someone. In the process, a potential unsuspecting prospective immigrant who only lurked around the board, would have been saved from having his thinking influenced that could have led to a possible disaster.

May be some one can judge about their capabilities based on these posts positive or negative.

True. But just as true is the reverse too! That someone may also MISJUDGE is equally possible!!

Frankly if some one would have told me about this site before my immigration i would have really been thankful to that guy as i really feel that immigrating to canada was one of the biggest MISTAKE in my life.

Agreed! But also possible is someone who may say " It was BECAUSE I got to know of this site, and the messages I read that prompted me to decide to immigrate and now I realize that it made biggest MISTAKE in my life by coming here".

So let the truth come on this forum.

Sure, but unfortunately, "truth" is not experiences, memoirs and autobiographies of posters, whether good or bad. They are different for different individuals, and not uniformly applicable to all. How can something that is so variable and dependent on the individual be called "truth"?

Going by your arguments, does the guy who invented the wheel have blood on his hands?

And what about the guy who's currently working on nanotech? Sure, it holds great promise but what about the military implications? Should he stop working on that right away because it may be abused?

How far should we turn the clock back to avoid having any negative impact of everything we have ever done as the human race?

I am afraid that is a wrong analogy in that the two have no similarities. Inventions and technological developments have very tangible and realizable benefits. Intentional misuse of something is not reason enough to abandon development. Accidents cannot be excuses to stop progress. The examples you have given are things that have been expressly devloped for the benefit of all mankind. They are physical in nature. How can they be compared to personal experiences and opinions that have no tangible benefits? If technology is misused, it is done consciously and with purpose. By giving this analogy, are you suggesting that someone visiting this site can or will knowingly misuse the information to damage himself? Are you suggesting that, someone getting influenced by the personal opinions and views on this site and consequently taking decisions that affect his life adversely is a matter of accident?
I am confused. Maybe I am not getting it. Could you please explain what it is that you find analogous in the examples you have given?

Diogenes the Cynic aka Wisernow!

You gave yourself away on the “Hamilton” post yesterday. I had been following it during the course of the morning, when you posted information and a web link as Wisernow. We then had a problem with the website and your post was deleted. A little later, you came back and made the same post – identical wording and web link - as Diogenes. Too bad buddy, you gave yourself away.

You feel that people are playing games with the lives of prospective immigrants by posting personal experiences on this board. If you were so concerned, why do you post under 2 different active aliases?

Please answer this before you ask any further questions of contributors to this board.

The topic of this thread is so apt..............be careful with posts!!
