In the last one year, I have price matched 5 electronic items in FS, one even with online retailer based in Alberta. I could not have done that with Walmart as they do not carry those items and even if they did they do not price match online retailers.

Whether the policy wording is unique or not is hardly my concern. My experience price-matching at Walmart has always been hassle free. To me, determining whether a item is in stock or out of stock at a competitor is a hassle. So I find the FS policy not so hassle free.

We can talk about the nitty gritty of policy all we want, the bottom line is that in this very thread, you have a happy Walmart customer and not-so-happy FS customer, both of whom bought the same thing in the same timeframe.

Can you elaborate? Do you just tell them on the phone that an item is priced XYZ at WM? How do they verify?

For 64 GB 'source' just stopped price match this evening as they are now selling it as a bundle with case. But I guess you can still price match 16 GB playbook by just telling them to price match WM/Staples (they were doing it whole of weekend without any question for 64 GB) .

Staples is taking pre-order meaning you order now and they will deliver in next couple of weeks.

We can joke about it but today all big box retailers (especially grocery chains and departmental stores) would be bankrupt if it did not happen. If everyone came in for exactly the items that they sell at a loss or at cost and left with buying nothing else, there would be simply be no room to recover the money lost in items on sale.

Source?

The term is loss leader. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loss_leader

Walmart is a high volume in total, low margin business. I cannot think of any retailer who sells mostly electronics who will price match blindly based on price on a flyer.

Inspired by the talks on this thread, I decided to give another stab on my case, I went online last night to check the stock, could see staples selling online for 118$. I bought one immediately. Printed the bill and went to FS today.
I asked for the price match without showing the bill, the attendant started to give 'out of stock' BS to me , which I first patiently heard and when he stopped, I said I bought one already last night from staples, he started to say it is online purcha..., mean while the previous attendant who knew me from my earlier visit, took interest and came in , and straight away said that 'we are taking care of it sir'. I said but I need now to take decision whether to take price match or return, so will come back with the BB. He said you may take the decision but we are giving you better price. 111$s. I got back 43$s.
Staples will deliver tomorrow. I have 14 days now to return that BB or keep. I think I am going for latter. I got now 2 bags full ! one for my master one for my little boy !
