Why are you all judging the guy for buying a designer/quality watch?
You get what you pay for. I wouldnt buy a cheap watch that is of questionable materials/quality/may break down b)LOOKs like a cheap watch.
Fossil watches are gorgeous..both men's and womens.

Though what one buys is one preference but I don't think I d agree with M_R s statement wrt watches ' What you get is what you pay for ' .. thing ...
High end watches are not relatively more efficient as compared to well branded ones .. Watches are things of ostentation as much as jewelry ... that s why Rolex and all sell at exorbitant prices .
I have had Timex and Westar watches which have served me flawlessly for past 20 years with out even breathing . ..
But then again my take on it was different ... and mind you the OP s take was not about watches or Fossil but about the difference in US / Canada prices ..
But coming back again ... how many of you think that wrist watches would end / reach near extinction in few decades with the advent of cell phones / smart phones ?.. I mean its just another redundant accessory these days ... I have known a few people who have stopped wearing watches .

if you want a nice, cushy little designer watch for yerself, then you gotta be man enough to pay for it.

and why stop at Fossil...why not go movado, Tissot and even Rolex.
at the end of the day these things are purely of ego value and nothing more.
most of the fossil stuff is made in China...it's the same crap as everything else.
I agree with bhootnath that it's even better to buy from a Dollar store, if you can get your size.
actually, Fido is right now. why have a watch in the first place?
there are clocks everywhere these days. even on the computer.
and there's the cell phone too.

you pay more for the car, pay more for the maintenance, pay more for repairs, pay more for insurance - and it still gets you there in the same way in approx. the same time (as long as you don't speed the beamer like crazy).

Writing "I was showing my new watch to my office colleagues" does not mean that i was showing off. It is normal to discuss about thing that you brought with office colleagues.
Do not assume anything or read between the lines.
The scope of this post was very limited to getting preferred product at cheap price and not to discuss whether product is junk or luxury or necessity.
It is a question of getting the buying preferred brand at comparatively less price
For example if you prefer and afford Toyota Camry and if you brought it from "XYZ" Store at $25000 and same is available at "ABC" store for $23000 than you will definitely go for cheaper Camry and no other brand.
Buying preferred and affordable product at comparatively lesser price is common sense and discussing the same on public platform is not acting like raja bhoj / ganu taly and not whining about price.
I have just asked price difference for similar brand and not among the alternative brands.
I have also not asked for how to save money on watch. Hence discussion on watches from Dollar store / Wall mart and questioning the future of watch is irrelevant.
Unfortunately , you have posted your query in a public forum where each is free to make their own comment and usually such discussion spawn in to different branches ............. This is a characteristic of public forums.

Is there a universal rule that everyone should buy cheap stuff and lead a very basic lifestyle? If OP can afford it, Whats wrong in buying a luxury product? One of my colleague brought a Louis Vuitton Damier canvas bag for $1100. Since she can afford it, 1100$ spent is good for economy than sitting idle in her bank account. After all luxury products also contribute to economy.
