That being said , you should hear to all and maked your own choices for you yourself are responsible for your actions...One should always be prudent in one's decisions.I have seen 6 figure earners here driving used economical compact cars ..

Now to your case .. and the present ... You wish to resettle but don't do it a hurry .. India will all its ills is the best place for us to recover from depression with so many family members and friends..

People have been in worse circumstances and still come back big time.. Be glad and thankful that your family are with you safe and sound ..That per me is the most valuable thing you still have..

One more thing , quality of life is determined by both - where you are and more importantly what you earn ... A person earning 1 lac pm in India may be having a better quality of life than one earning 30K - 40K here ...

Look into FH's advice above and see if you are entitled to EI ... I believe you have to file for it with in 1 year of termination.

Please do not return in haste ... wait for your depression to be recovered from and then decide on your next course of action ... Chalk out a strategy and then come here ...Remember being w/o your family here though may make you feel economically more secure it could mentally make you weaker ...You have seen Canadian life & style , you know what to expect ...have experience so should be in a better positon than other new immigrants ...

Do also consider other Provinces like Alberta & Manitoba ... from time to time we hear of the booming job market in places like Calgary & Saskatchewan and the like ...

Last but not the least - be regular on CD .. One of the best places to get free sincere advice ..But make your own judgments and don't be led by any one ... All the best !!!

I agree with Fido , do not make any decision in hurry and take your time in India. There is no place in world better than India for mental and family support. Here you have to be all alone.
I understand that most of us are here for our kids, but aren't our kids missing grad parents love, playing with cousins, family values, festivals. Kids here are all alone with we busy in our jobs, grocery etc and kids are busy in electronic gadgets. I have seen people busy here in weekly discount flyers on weekend.

Couldn't have said any better.
Yes, this is quality of life. Where kids get love & affection from the entire family, culture, tradition, etc. What good it will do, by earning a few thousand dollars etc & realizing that you have lost value worth millions.
Your personal depression is good enough reason to reach a conclusion. Add this family & kids its even more compelling.

I would say everyone will realize this one day; but by that time it would be too late.

I believe the OP was referring to clean air , pollution free , less corrupt and overall cleaner environment when he was referring to better quality of life .

We cannot get everything everywhere so life has to be a balance & tradeoff ... What one prefers is one's own discretion ...But hey aren't we digressing already :)

Hi PK Girpare

Firstly the thing which I don't get is what is your qualification?? If you were working in BPO in Canada 80k job would be given to you only if you are in Management. So once you lost your job, did you try looking for jobs? No job is permanent in North America. The important thing is you make sure that you have adequate skills which are in need by the employers and if not keep upgrading them while working. Within one year buying a car and house is really aggressive yet not a bad situation. Car can be sold and house can be rented as everyone has said. EI is also there to support since you had worked for one year. Btw you did not accumulate savings at all which can help you sail through job search period? This is poor planning.

Any ways it is never late, but now if you are coming do proper planning , analyse your skills and have fair expectations of salary and job prospects based on that. It takes time and a bit of struggle and positive attitude. Nothing is easy in life. All the immigrants have gone through their own share of struggle.

I agree with your opinion - One can't get everything everywhere.

But the point here is. What makes you happy? Just because a person got a Visa or a Citizenship doesn't mean he has to live & die in Canada. There's lot more in life than that.

Here's a recent study which gives you a clear picture of how people live in Canada.
What we know already (thanks to BMO’s scary survey of three weeks ago): 51% of Canadians have less than $10,000 in savings to cover any unforeseen expenses. Almost a fifth have less than a grand. A quarter of people live paycheque-to-paycheque. Over 40% couldn’t get by for 90 days without being paid. Shockingly, of those who earn more than $100,000, a third couldn’t survive for three months without a paycheque. In other words, they spend everything.

OH MY GOD !!!!

so much hatred for Canada..... I wonder why this people who are writting such crap are still on CanadianDesi site & have not returned back to India ????

The only sensible answer I can think of is to discourage others who are willing to relocate to Canada or to create a very bad picture of Canada as an country.

Why are people not going back to India and wasting their energy and time in Canada ????

Can-De,
I have gone back to India and hence I am justified with my comments about Canada.
Peace by Murali
