Hi everyone,
I'm planning on applying for OCI. Unfortunately, I have lost IMM 5292 (Confirmation of Permanent Residence) document. It turns out that CIC no longer issues a true copy but instead issues whats called as Verification of Status (VOS) document with same information as original.
The CGI and the BLS web site makes no reference to VOS as an acceptable document and my calls to them was not very useful to say the least.
My questions, is there anyone who has applied for OCI with VOS ? If so, was there any issue in BLS/CGI accepting it as a valid alternative to IMM 5292. WAs there a request for any other document in addition ?
Appreciate your feedback/comments/experience.
Cheers!

Hi Full House,
Many thanks for a prompt response. As I understand and in reviewing the CIC website, they no longer provide a copy of the document IMM 5292 (Your FIRST comment) but only the VOS.
This is what the website says...
Replacement of valid temporary resident documents
You can apply to replace your current and valid temporary resident document if it has been lost, stolen or destroyed. We may issue you a replacement document for any of these documents:
Visitor Record (IMM 1442)
Work Permit (IMM 1442)
Study Permit (IMM 1442)
Temporary Resident Permit (IMM 1442)

Am I mistaken ?

FIRST ..: You ask them for a COPY of the Document IMM 5292. (COPR) You have to provide all of the details that they ask for in the application and the fees that it calls for ($30.00)
SECOND .. : Ask for VOS, your Immigration history IMM 5009 and for this you will be asked an additional fee of $30.00.
So, the total cost will be $60.00. Produce the originals with a copy to BLS/CGI. They should return the Originals back to you.(Make sure of that)
-----
Verification of Status Document
A Verification of Status document will contain information that appeared on your original Record of Landing, Confirmation of Permanent Residence, Work Permit, Study Permit or other immigration documents. This document can be used when you must provide proof of historical immigration information, such as the date and place of entry to Canada.
You may obtain a Verification of Status document outlining the pertinent historical information for the following:
Certificate of Departure (IMM 0056)
Immigrant Visa and Record of Landing (IMM 1000)/Confirmation of Permanent Residence (IMM 5292 or IMM 5688)
Visitor Record (IMM 1097 or IMM 1442)
Work Permit (IMM 1102 or IMM 1442)
Study Permit (IMM 1208 or IMM 1442)
Exclusion Order (IMM 1214)
Deportation Order (IMM 1215)
Departure Order (IMM 5238)
Permit to Come Into or Remain in Canada (IMM 1263)
Authorization to Return to Canada (IMM 1203)
Protected Persons
Note : The actual document itself will not be issued, instead a plain paper document will be issued that will provide information about your immigration history.

VOS : http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5009E.pdf
Instruction Guide. :

All they provide you is a letter with their letterhead which will have all of the details and they attest the same to tell you that you were issued such a document. It will be nice to provide the date of entry seal from your old Passport of that vintage and ask for a COPY. See what you get. I am sure they will provide you with the details of that COPR. (Did you not make a copy when you were issued with the same prior to arrival into Canada??)
You can always get VOS. So, obtain that document to submit to the BLS/CGI.
