Hi,

One of my friends has got PR and landed in Canada but he did not bring his family, the family also had PR. He intends to return back to India once he gets Citizenship for himself and his daughter. The daughter has not landed in Canada, I adviced him that he should land his family then only he can get Citizenship for daughter who is 2 yrs old.

But he is confident that once he becomes citizen his daughter will also get since she is a minor, I wanted to check with seniors if this is right?

Thanks
VRathore

Children of Canadian citizens are directly eligible for Canadian citizenship. They don't have to go through the process of obtaining PR

You are correct if the child is born AFTER the parent naturalizes as a Canadian.

In the case of the OP, the daughter is already born and the parent is a PR. Hence, the daughter has to land as a PR before turning around to apply for citizenship. The child does not have to accrue time toward citizenship or PR residency and therefore can apply for citizenship as soon as becoming a PR (in this case, as soon as the parent becomes a Canadian citizen).

Residence is just one requirement for citizenship ... Intent to stay and ties to Canada is an un documented gray area on which they can and do refuse citizenship . Not having brought your family for landing or stay is a clear check mark .

true.... not bringing the family would be a clear red flag on his citizenship file. The file would be send to a judge which would 90% to time refuse citizenship of the individual, except he is having a divorce procedure going on back home !!!

Advice the guy to meet some immigration expert to take a opinion. The rules are getting tougher and tougher every year... they are clearly on the run to close all the loop holes slowly

I also intended to say the same ... typed in a check mark in stead of a red flag ..Thanks for correction.

ooops....not meant to correct you. Didn't even noticed the word check mark !!!

when I wrote "true"... I was referring to your post and message about undocumented gray area in citizenship procedure
