Hi CD friends,
My daughter , Canadian citizen, is married to an Indian citizen and staying in India,
She has given birth to a daughter, in India, and she is intending to obtain canadian passport (which she is entitled to), my question is what is her original citizenship?
As she is Indian by birth,
Thanks for your valuable inputs.

Whenever you experience joy, peace, security, equanimity or purity, it is only because you are aligned with ALMIGHTY.
The child can either be an Indian citizen (by birth) or a Canadian citizen (from her parent), but not both. If they choose Canadian citizenship, they need to ensure that the child's Indian documents are obtained as well (PIO, OCI, visa, etc).

For proof of CAD citizenship and PP, you can contact the Cdn Embassy. For India, to obtain OCI, PIO, you'll have to check the relevant websites. Beyond that, I don't know.

Peacock 1:
Her original citizenship (or birth citizenship) is Indian
Her current citizenship is Canadian.
Child can get a Cdn citizenship, if you wish as one parent is Canadian.
Visit cic.gc.ca or the Indian CIC webiste.
All the best !

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
They need to make a decision basing on their immediate and long term plans.
Since the baby is born in India ... she is citizen of India by birth. If they are going to stay in India for a long period, they may not have to rush to do any thing now. If you take a Canadian citizenship for her now ... then she need to have all other documents (OCI/PIO) to continue her stay in India for which the process can be definitely tiresome.
If they are moving to Canada soon, then obtain Canadian citizenship for her, get a passport and move to Canada. Later if they want to go to India again she can either take India visa for travel or go for OCI/PIO.
Best will be go to Canadian embassy and enquire. Take along the birth certificate, and fill in the application for citizenship certificate.
