Good discussions.
When a cheap courier company is existing near the airport (I forget the name), the person who posted should have tried to send it through that company rather than put a desi in discomfort. The OP might be meaning good, but what I am trying to tell here is that they need to by very careful. See what is being done to Dr. Devayani of NY, USA who is the second most important consular officer of India in NY state. Why should we let our guard down.
The OP mentioned that one Gold believer cheated him by giving him wrong investment advice. The Gold believer is telling that the OP was pestering him for advice and that he is not his financial planner. The point is, if you are a desi, believe no one.

Hope you got the point.

Peace by Murali

Bhootnath:
I have seen the OP one time and he had given me free a curtain which I had to replace in my rental home. However, the curtain did not fit and I had to get another one from Walmart of $19.20+tax. I have never had lunch with the OP.

See, you Desi's in Canada are missing the point. What I had meant is that the OP may be my best friend. If he gives me $ 10 and tells me to buy some hair oil etc.. I may buy. But if he gives me a Glove and tells me to deliver, I will be afraid as I donot know the specifics of the Glove.
Also there are desi's (like with whom I have lived) who always like to convert. They will want me to buy milk sweets from India where was the same Milk sweets are available in Islington/Rexdale for twice the cost. They want to save $ 1 or $ 2 or not pay at all.

I feel that the OP should not have advertised that service in the Charcha of CD. He should have posted it in the classifieds or he should have called his friends over phone or advertised on Kijiji.

Take it in the right spirit.

Murali

Now I know what elders meant when they said "you become what you eat "

People eating garbage from dumpsters are bound to become garbage .

On a side note for Bhootnath : I never worked in Oracle ..LOL .

I hope we can keep from making personal comments and still discuss this through.

I do not consider anything wrong in the original post where the OP has asked for sending something to India ..

And there s nothing wrong either in posting the risks of such a transaction - which even I had done in the sending laptop to India thread .

Its a free world - if some one wishes to do something , its their wish .

However being personal and name calling is something which should be avoided in the interest of the discussion.

I have myself requested people to get me medicines / documents and returned the favor a couple of times ... and would do so again .. however only with / for known acquaintances and for small un suspicious items .. No harm in that at all .

Once had a sad experience myself ..Some one asked me for a specific book to be brought from India and I had to order it from Delhi and when I brought it , the person did not offer me the price of it despite being so overjoyed .... After a lot of internal debate , one day I borrowed that book from him and asked him for the money after that .... He paid up and that was the end of the relationship .... I could have swallowed the price but felt it unfair ...

So do as much as you can ( and expect as much as the other can ) with in reasonable limits .... The problem comes where expectations differ ..which should also be understood ...

Frankly, thanks to OP for posting it here , atleast I learnt from TK's posts that not to trust people blindly specially on things we transport for others. Those are valid points.
I sometimes go overboard to trust and help.
good discussion.

Thanks San Hugo.
if some one were to give to $ 50 or a Gold coin to be delivered I might do it as the worst thing that can happen to me is benefit of $ 50 or a Gold coin. But to carry a glove or medicines (can contain coke) or their $ 1 stuff is expolitation.
Couriers are very cheap now. One should use them instead of troubling others.
