Greetings...
Like many IT guys in this forum, I moved to Canada from US strictly looking to just secure the passport and move back to USA. But Canada came as a surprise like you cross a cute little beautiful town on your way and you push the brake.
After years of introspection and some small little stints to move east, I have come to realize that it is not just the kids, its myself and my wife (nearly 16 years of life in North America) has developed quite an influence of living / working in North America.
As its close to 8-9 years here, I've started looking at my options whether to stay put in GTA, or try to move to Eastern USA (my kids are American citizens) to help further motivating them to join one of the premier institutions around the North Eastern US belt (had been a motivation for a long time), wife is knowingly or unknowingly pursuing her US Financial certifications that could help her to establish there, my skills are generally in reasonable demand in Major metros.
Would it be a good idea to test the water ? ( I spent nearly 7 years in California and less than a year in East coast of USA). I got some friends in NY region who passed on my resume to the recruiters and I am getting calls, nothing materialized but sure there is some interest from other side.
What could go terribly wrong ? ( will forgo the small hickups).
What would you lose the most of leaving GTA ?
What is the idea path ? TN or wait for H1B again or start with TN and switch to H1B and Green card.
I started this thread as there could few other people who could be developing similar mindset.
BTW, I like (like to rev it up a bit) USA..
Its just the discussion, feel free to drive..

Thanks for bringing this up JRF .
I was also dreaming about this
And the first q I had was where to in the US ?
My objectives are better climate ( preference for warm) and good number of IT jobs available metro ... plus a lower cost of living ...
Which would be some states / cities I would provide this ?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Fido.
If I had a wide choice...aka scratch from start, my choices for location would be
North Carolina (warm enough to enjoy most of the year and cold enough to enjoy the four seasons)
Denver, Colorado Springs area - beautiful area...The Rockies, moderate weather compared to many areas along this latitude.
I am not in IT, so I can't speak about IT opportunities.

Thanks for writing this.
I lived in Charlotte, NC, Phoenix AZ, Long Island, NY for few months. I liked NC the most.
Job opportunities are not bad but not as good as New York region which runs much bigger economic engine.
I am open to location so long
1. My kids have better opportunities (good schools) should they prefer to attend universities.
2. Wife in Financial accounting field should get some opportunities.
3. Not another icebox.
4. Not California (Im afraid to say that, usually I end up what I don't look for / like).
Dallas, Houston is also not bad but I am again not putting a lot of emphasize on weather (at the same time, it is also an important factor influencing).
For some collective reasons I am trying to stay in the east coast, North Carolina (some what known place as I have friends) could really fit the bill. Especially Charlotte.
How do I go about convincing the recruiters about TN ? Some seem to know about it and many are quite unaware ? if a position states that you should be a green card, does it mean they are also trying to dodge TN or just the H1B.
