Can someone share his experience of living in this area. Does this neighbourhood has good ranking public schools. Would it be a good choice for new immigrant to live in the appartments of this area rather than living in basements ! pls suggest.

Can yo define - "good choice". Good is a very relative term, what's good in my mind may be bad in your's.

You mentioned good ranking public schools, it that the only criteria, you have or are there others, for e.g. close to public transit, grocery, parks, safe environment, meaning you can return home late at night without the fear of getting mugged.

Based on the information that Iv'e heard and experienced.. Thorncliffe Park is totally dominated by one particular ethnic community. That community has it's place of worship, grocery and eating joints to name a few. Now if you belong to that ethnic community, you'll love the place, OTOH someone who does not belong to that community may say it's a bad choice.

A few years ago, I have heard and experienced that the hallway of some of the buildings smell of desi food. People were running commercial kitchens in their apartments, and why not...if you don't pay for hydro separately, does it matter if you use 10 kws or 100 kws. This was atleast 10 to 12 years ago, things may have changed, but highly unlikely.

As regards good ranking schools, are you talking about Elementary, Middle or High schools? I'd suggest look the TDSB website for the ranking of schools in that area.

Does that help... ;)

Thanks sude, quite informative, offcourse we do needed to count all those factors that you have mentioned. As per my info, everythong is available there, no security issues, only that buildings are bit dated. But why I asked bout schools(they include all three levels) cuz as you said the area is already dominated by a particular ethnic community, so as the trend goes it's highly likely that neighbourhood schools situation would not be that good. Would appreciate if someone living or having lived there could contribute to the topic.
Suded, can you recommend some decent apartments in Mississauga or I should go for a basement ! Thanks

If you have two or more kids, you are better to look for Condos in Square one area in place of apartments, I would recommend you to avoid basements as there could be many consequences of living (spending some time to watch a movie is different than living in Basement, No offense to folks living in basements). It is likely to affect your enthusiasm and on the kids.

Apartment rents for a decent 2 bedroom would run about $1400 + parking + Laundry, leading a figure of close to 1550 to 1600. If you rent a good condo, the rents on a 2-3 bed are going to be around 1600 - 1700 + hydro (another $80-$100). For the difference of $200, there will be a huge difference in the lifestyle.

As mentioned, basements work against many factors while there could be a savings of about $600 dollars.

Hasni,
That area occupied by under employed people.
Avoid that area.
