If and when you fill out your application form with ALL of the required details, they will start processing it after verification. You will receive your payments within 90 days of application.

If there is any item that needs clarification or found missing, they will write and ask for the same from you and will write to the address given. If you have moved, please make sure that you get all of your mail redirected to you(FORWARDED). That will secure a continuity in the communication.

NOW, when you send the required materials, they will evaluate it and post it to your files within 40 days of receipt. That will delay the application a further 80 days. So, it will be from the date of request for the information, plus 120 days after that, when you will receive the payments. (Hoping that the information that you submitted is correct.)

SO, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR APPLICATION IS FILLED IN CORRECTLY AND ALL OF THE COPIES OF THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS ARE ATTACHED TO IT.

They will be doing away with all of the paper format from 2016. Everything will be done through the web and payments will go directly to the BANK. (to THE Account number to which was provided to them.) ( SO DO DOUBLE CHECK THIS or PROVIDE A SCANNED COPY OF THE CHECK, Marked VOID.)

Dear FH, thanks for detailed reply. Yes they did ask for the worldwide income of my wife in both CCTBand GST/HST applications. I have provided the required info. But it looked quite unnecessary on CRA behalf to ask for writing "zero dollars" instead of "nil"that we had already put in the applications. So when should I expect my benefits to arrive roughly. I had provided required info on oct 9' 2014. Am I justified in hoping that benefits shall be calculated from the day we landed, ie aug12' 2014. Thanks

Just to inform you, it is the one and only form that they use for those who are living here in Canada and just got a new child in their family and for those who enter into Canada from abroad and come down to settle down here.

So, naturally, it gets their goat too. But you don't have to give any figures to them as it is not MANDATORY. But it will give them a low amount in assistance if they give a very high figure. So, some of the new entrants who were snagged by their own exhuberance, have dropped down here to inform you give a low ball figure. That is a really helpful suggestion.

I will also provide you here under a little bit of information just to make it more clearer to you. A few people make a quick entry and then return after a few months or an year after or TWO to settle down here.

Some of them might have investments that will give them interest, some a few Takas in rent and for a few a sum of Rupees in Dividends etc., and a few rich individuals sell their properties for a hefty capital gains and it is those who return back and mark "0" dollars in the income column, if and when they find them falsifying their income, get caught, will get a big hit in their behinds plus a fine to top it. That will affect those who do things haphazardly and realize later on that they were not so smart.

There is always a catch and the Canadian Government will some how get you. This Canadian Tax system is an HONOUR SYSTEM and so try to be as clean and guilt free as you can to get by on a day to day basis. That will keep your nose clean and you are also off the hook.

http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/newcomers/ What income must you report?

For the part of the tax year that you were NOT a resident of Canada * (SEE AFTER BECOMING A RESIDENT...

You pay Canadian income tax on Canadian source income.

You have to report the following amounts:

income from employment in Canada or from a business carried on in Canada; IF YOU WORKED HERE*
* taxable capital gains from disposing of taxable Canadian property; and
the taxable part of scholarships, bursaries, fellowships and research grants you received from Canadian sources.

For the part of the tax year that you WERE a resident of Canada

You have to report your world income (income from all sources, both inside and outside Canada) earned after becoming a resident of Canada for income tax purposes on your Canadian tax return.

In some cases, pension income from outside of Canada may be exempt from tax in Canada due to a tax treaty, but you must still report the income on your tax return. You can deduct the exempt part on line 256 of your tax return.

We consider you to have acquired (deemed acquisition) almost all your properties at fair market value on the day you immigrated.

ETC., ETC., Please read trhe LINK provided at the start.

I hate to see two individuals at loggerheads and becoming personal and making personal comments. It is their prerogative but should weigh their comments prior to posting or go about it diplomatically in a round about way. The important part is trying to help a new comer and making it CRYSTAL CLEAR TO HIM/HER why it is, that we say, what we want to say. Remember, no one is a thief or a liar unless he is caught.

Dear FH, thanks again, we have filled two different forms for both of these benefits. And since my wife is a housewife so we put her income as nil in the forms. But got letter from CRA to give a write up saying that my spies income has been zero dollars in the previous year. Though I have mentioned my worldwide income and haven't put zero there. So what I understood from your reply, that a new comer like me may report somewhat less worldwide income unless he hasn't settled in Canada, but once in Canada all figures should be reported correctly. Did I get it right !

Wrong Hasni.
Just give a letter statement that CRA wants and get your money.

Points to be considered, as of now:
1. You (Hasni) are the principal applicant. So your wife immigration is through you.
2. You are making your wife to stay in Canada with kids, while you will go to Saudi to earn.
3. Your wife's income is Zero but Canada considers only family income. So you and your wife's earning will matter to CRA.
4. Now since you are leaving Canada, not sure if you will be considered a resident for tax purposes , though you promise to return soon. Also you will have to see what CRA thinks of the principal applicant leaving the country while leaving his spouse and children in Canada. So you may have to report your spouse + your income and the child benefits will be based on that.

5. If in confusion (as I am now) just consult a Desi consultant. But all desi lawyers will suggest you to put Zero as your income, so that there is no further question from CRA. For example, if you put your saudi salary, there is a possiblity that the CRA might ask for further documents. If you put Zero as your income, then what document will the CRA ask?

Anyways, consult a good tax consultant who deals with the pricipal applicant being out of the country while leaving the rest of the family in Canada. You will see lot of them at Dundas Steet W and Hurontario (Hwy-10) interesection.

While I was coming in the flight yesterday, an incident in my life came into my mind (True story) :.
I was in Malaysia in 1997 working in an Architectural firm along with a desi who was an Australian citizen. He used to tell me about how good Australia was by its clean air, good buildings, white people, technologically advanced etc.. Though he told me that Australia was in deep recession (started in 1991), I made up my mind to go to Australia. I was afraid to ask him as to how to apply for Australia.

During that time, he fought with another of our co -workers and he had to come to me for help and I helped him. So he told me that he will tell me how to immigrate and told me the process. Then came the real stinker:
He told me to apply for Canada or NZ as he would not encourage Desi's to immigrate to Australia since every new immigrant meant that one less job in Australia and that it would make that difficult for him and his wife to find a job, once they decide to go back to Australia. So like a fool, I applied for Canada and came to the cursed land and lost 9 glorious years of my life.

Hope people with ears will hear and understand.

Cheers to all !! Live and let live !!!
