In addition to what Gurram has mentioned, Pls make sure you have a copy of airline tickets ( showing the travel dates to/return (some times consular would like to know the dates of travel prior issuance of visa. ( a flight travel itinerary will suffice )
I will be very reluctant to buy Airline tickets prior to visa approval . Most Cheap tickets are non refundable.
AFAIK having a air ticket in hand does not add any weight to the application.

Growing Old Is Mandatory ..Growing UP is Optional
If you have all of your DUCKS in a row and applied yesterday, you will get a Visa to VISIT Canada in 15 Days. (Today's processing times)
If you can get a RT from a Major City in India to Toronto, another major city for a sum of Can 850.00, then it will be only an advisory (Itinerary) it will be well worth it. THEY CANNOT BOOK A TICKET WITHOUT A *VISA.
Go Man 'GO FOR IT', Rates do change, so, book it soon, earlier the better.

It depends on the consular office which processes the application.I can say for person whom i know had travelled recently, consular office asked for the copy of the airliner ticket. I think a flight booking details (most travel agents provide this free of charge) showing name of passenger and travel dates should suffice not necessarily purchasing the ticket itself .
