Censor board cuts because Anurag might have publicised it as a true story happening in Punjab. If it is true story, director has to produce proof which he can never ever provide or get. Better to say it as a written story rather than publicising it as real story to avoid controversies. If you cannot prove better to shut the mouth because our so called legal system also never believe anything until a proof is given.

There is a difference between a 'might have' and 'have'. Choose wisely. From the beginning, they have been proclaiming it to be a work of fiction. If you look at the trailer, even a low IQ nincompoop can say it is fiction. Now, if the story is based on the backdrop of Drug usage in the State, is another aspect of it altogether. Since when you can't use the real backdrop in the fictionalized account? Ever heard about these movies - Bombay, Haider, Delhi Belly, Go Goa Gone, Madras Cafe, Roja, any many more?

If you don't know whether or not the widespread drug usage in Punjab is real, then I highly recommend you to please get in touch with the ones from the State. As earlier stated, you would find them in abundance across GTA. Or, for the lack of it (if any), here is the Google search for the keyword 'Drugs Punjab' - see it for yourself the extent of the issue:

According to some, it is the Punjabi culture for heavy drinking and partying as well as the habit of landowners supplying raw opium to farm labourers to encourage them to work harder, that has contributed to the problem. Most rural households in the state are thought to have one addict.

Talking about undermining the issue. You need to listen to some Punjabi News radio. Well, not your fault. I, for one don't know what is happening in the States that I don't have any relation with.

You are right to some extent, and I can't deny that. But, you know the origin of the problem? It's the frigging Pakistan, via. Punjab's border towns. Now, what it takes for Punjab Govt. to take action against the smuggling and catch/charge the culprits? To date, I haven't heard a single perpetrator that has ever been caught and charged with. When the issue is that widespread and alarming, with not a single arrest (barring few that didn't see the light of the day after the story died down) made, then it means those in Power are fully hand in gloves. BJP is also complicit due to being an ally.

I highly recommend you to go through some literature on this issue - on or offline. Up to you.

So these are the words, that are to be removed.

1. Cut: Delete the signboard of Punjab in the beginning
2. Delete the name of cities like Punjab, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Tarn Taran and more (All reference of Punjab cities in the dialogues/songs, anywhere in the film should be removed)
3. From Song Number 1: Name of a drug (References to drug nowhere)
4. Words from song 3 (Delete the word 'Chitta' from the song)
6. Delete Abuses
7. Delete the word elections, MP, party, Party Worker, MLA, Punjab parliament
8. Song no:3 Delete the scene of a scratching Sardar.
9. Censor board wants long disclaimers like: The film focuses on the rising menace of drugs and the war against drugs and is an attempt effects of drugs. We acknowledge the battle against drugs being fought by govt and police but it can't be won unless people of India unite against this menace.

Whats the problem in that ?

Looks like you have never listened to the Punjabi songs, majority of which are clearly offensive, vulgar, crass, demeaning to women, borderline racist, proponent of using guns, drugs, booze, and violence by the upper class (Jatts), openly spewing hatred and killing the girl friend if she plans to leave away with someone else (especially to Kanedda), etc. Then, there are those that openly portray the separatist leader ?Bhindrawale? as a Superhero and Saint.

That my dear friend is called Offensive that no one leader bats an eye lid of. Let?s also ban and use scissors on those songs as well, and while we are at it. Trust me, there are a plenty of. Punjab has more Singers per capita than anywhere else. It will be years before you keep track of all the offensive lyrics in Punjabi songs.

?Punjab ke puttar kanjar hein? is just a minuscule thing ? I have heard much worst.

Also, what?s wrong with ?Punjab ki bhoomi banjar hey?. it?s not a fact, and just the opinion of someone singing or the view of the Producer/lyricist/singer then I would discount that too on the pretext of the artistic freedom.

None of the words that they wanted to cut deserve the scissors. Part of my family belongs to Punjab and I (as well as they) don?t have any problem with any of this.
