Does Marital Status needs to be told to Canadian Immigration ?

Hello Masoodjee,

A friend of mine got married to guy from New york. She lives in calgary and he is in USA. They did court marriage in Calgary.
Now, since then she has not changes her last name neither has she informed the Canadian Authorities about her marital status .

Is it a crime or illeagal not to tell government ie; Alberta Health Care or the government that your marital status has changed ?

She is PR of canada from past 2 years.

Please advice.

as long as you dont misrepresent (i.e. lie - such as on tax returns etc) about it then no..
