I have recieved my Landing Papers in May' 05, and my initial application was submitted with my marital status as SINGLE. I got married in June' 05 and my wife is in USA with me, where I work. So, my new marital status now is "MARRIED". I have not landed yet, my visa expires on Oct. 1st' 2005. I'm not sure what needs to be done?. I know I need to inform the embassy about the change in status to avoid any future problems. So, do I go ahead and land?, or 'file an application for my wife' and both of us go land at a future date?. OR any other options.....

Please advice.....asap!!!

WE HAD A FORM THAT WE FILLED UP AT THE END OF THE PROCESS WHERE WE HAD TO GIVE THE DETAILS OF ALL THE DEPENDANTS AND WE COULD ADD ANY ONE THAT WE HAD NOT EARLIER . YOU SHOULD INFORM THE COUNSULATE IMMEDIATLY AND ASK WHAT YOU SHOULD DO. OR YOUR WIFE WILL HAVE TO GO THROUGH ATH WHOLE PROCESS ALL OVER AGAIN.

You have to return your visa. Add your wife to your application by completing forms and paying fees. DON'T LAND WITHOUT DOING THIS OR ELSE YOU WILL CLOSE THE DOORS ON YOUR WIFE'S IMMIGRATION PROSPECTS FOR EVER.

Kchelluri,

You MUST act IMMEDIATELY. In addition to Massood’s contribution, try and do the following:

1] Fill form IM 0008 [“Generic” form labeled “APPLICATION FOR PERMANENT RESIDENCE IN CANADA”] and add/change the information in the relevant dialog boxes e.g.
“How many family members (including yourself) are included
in this application for permanent residence in Canada?”

- here if you are applying for you and wife, the number should be 2.

“DETAILS OF FAMILY MEMBERS”

- here add information about you wife
- in the rest of page 1 [questions 1 to 22], you MUST enter EXACTLY all the information about yourself as they appeared when you submitted your first application.

2] Fill form IM 0008 SCHEDULE 1 for your wife – labeled “Background/Declaration”

3] Fill form IM 5406 [labeled “ADDITIONAL FAMILY INFORMATION”] and add the information in section A dialog box about your wife and remember to enter your own in this section. In the section C [“Brothers and Sisters}, you MUST enter EXACTLY all the information about your relations as they appeared when you submitted your first application. Sign and date your form.

4] Add six [6] passport photos of your wife

5] Add the processing fee [cashier's cheque for your wife - same amount that you paid for yourself] made payable to “Canadian Consulate General”.

6] Authenticated marriage certificate.

7] Your wife’s documents which you claimed in step 2 above [SCHEDULE 1] e.g. birth certificate, educational certificates etc

8] Police certificate for your wife, for good conduct.

In a mail, indicate that your family composition has changed and that you want to add your newly married wife in your file. Remember to return your visa.

Post IMMEDIATELY and use a courier service if you can.

Best wishes.

Dear Masoodji and phuan1:
Thanks for getting back to me. It was very useful information.

I have a few questions:

1. What does return the Visa mean?.....return my passport or the
Landing Documents?.
2. Would I have the same LIN # or is it going to change?
3. How long is the process going to take, to complete the PR card?
4. It will take time to get her Police clearance certificates, so is it
advisable to send them the documents I have and then send the rest
of the documents when I recieve them?

Please reply asap as I am running out time. I really appreciate your service to other individuals.

Thank you,

Kiran

Send the documents with the forms for your wife etc etc. Tell them you will send the passports when they request them [yours & your wife's]. It can take 3-6 months.

Thanks all for helping this gentleman out.

Kchelluri,

Remember to get all the little tiny details fixed [eg your documents notarized] and do NOT rush unnecessarily because of time constraints so you don’t mess things up. Be composed and calculated.

All the Best.
