For the parents who are dependents of Canadian PRs and are living with them, are there any government-sponsored benefits/programs (Like they have social security in U.S.)?
If so, do the parents need to be PRs themselves? What are the eligibility requirements for such benefits? Is there a gov website where you can get more info about it?
Thanks a lot
- Aseem
You have to pay into the social security to get the benefits. There is no free lunch there ..

Dear Smiley, with due respect to you, I never asked for a free lunch . All I want to know is:
What are the eligibility requirements for such benefits? Is there a gov website where you can get more info about it?
I will really appreciate plain info from the experts, and not caustic remarks.
Regards,
Aseem.
Hi Aseem
I am sorry if you thought my remarks were derogatory but I only replied to what you asked
"For the parents who are dependents of Canadian PRs and are living with them, are there any government-sponsored benefits/programs (Like they have social security in U.S.)?"
Ans : You referred to US social security as a reference and I said you have to pay into it to get it . It is not free . Whats bad in that . There is no free lunch is not a bad statement. It just means you have to pay to get it .
"If so, do the parents need to be PRs themselves? What are the eligibility requirements for such benefits? Is there a gov website where you can get more info about it?"
Ans: If the parents are not PR , they are not eligible to get anything. They should have paid into CPP to get pension benefits , for that they should have earned in Canada which makes it the same statement as US social security .

Hope this helps
