Immigrant Parents in Canada http://groups.yahoo.com/group/immigrantparentsincanada
this is a terrible decision for immigrants who have applied for their parents' sponsorship.
what is even more disheartening is to read some of the comments people posted on the news stories.
i assume most of those comments have been posted by local Canadians, of white descent.
it gives a glimpse into their mindset and attitude towards elders and immigrants in general.
there are comments calling aged immigrants as suckers, and ripping off their social system and a tax burden and a vote grabbing program by the govt. etc.
these are probably 3rd generation or later immigrants themselves.
what these morons don't realize is that at some point in the past their great grandparents also immigrated into this country.
they are themselves the children of immigrants.
what these retarded idiots also don't realize is that it is the taxes paid by hard working immigrants that pays for all the pensions, OAS, etc. that the old white people are collecting today.
the white baby boomers did not pay that much into the system as what they are collecting today.
finally what these dumb asses don't know (and don't care to find out) is that parents are not a burden on the social system.
the sponsor has to sign a declaration that states he/she will take care of the sponsored parents for at least 10 years.
during that 10 years, the parents do not get any benefits like OAS.
the only social benefit they get is the health system, and that too not prescription drug benefits.
the taxes that their working children pay into the system, more than pays for the health care that aged parents receive.
as an immigrant it is very heart breaking for me to read all these comments and think that some of these could be people that I work with in the office, go for coffee with and play golf with.
this is the treatment and respect that immigrants are getting here from the politicians and locals alike, after having contributed to this country for so many years and decades.

I guess, we need to collectively think about it and take action. For now, sending him emails from all concerned would be an idea. I know these emails will be a fodder for the garbage bins in a corner within the Parliament, but at least it will be a step in the right direction.
Ask your friends/family to send an email to Jason with all the concerns we may have, and especially a strong worded one. After that we'll have a voting power. We need to strongly convey them that our parents are an intrinsic and inseparable part of our life, that can not be done without.
Here's Jason Kenny's email: kennej at the rate of parl dot gc dot ca.

This is the right thing to do. I suggest stop immigration totally for 5 yrs and and allow people as required based on economic needs and job market skills
This country has become pathetic with the high levels of immigration.
Its a burden on the total system of the country and a drain on our tax dollars and provides no benefit to Canada as a whole.
The economy is in a poor shape here and bringing skilled and othe people into this country and adding to the miseries of the existing people and system is unwarrented.
When we immigrate it doesn't mean that our family gets to come too. If you love them so much, don't leave them.
This country has turned into a ghetto by bringing in poor quality immigrants.
