good luck. it is pretty expensive. try kanetix.com and insurancehotline.com. they both offer you rates from other insurer's to compare. it is quite expensive here for car insurance. budget around 250-350 $ per month for a slightly older car with full cover/

Hi zen guy,

I m new to Canada. Have 2 years of US driving record. Clean. Got G license here. Now I hv a car. When i started shopping around for insurance the lowest rate i got is $353 / m. that too only basic coverage. I and my husband both hv G license with 2 years of US experience. how reliable are insurancehotline ?? they gave me $262/m . I m not a member of any association so cannot go to TDMM. can u please guide? Or anyone can please guide ??

You can try TD Insurance though they take over a month to give you an auto quote. You will have to fill the form and send by post. You do not have to be part of any association. I am not sure if TD Insurance and TD Meloche Monnex are two names of one company, they belong to same business group though.

Insurance Hotline is not perfect. It gives you names of insurance companies who may or may not cover you.

Go with TD canada trust for auto insurance.
I dont think there is a waiting period for getting insurance from TD.
I got my insurance from TD last year in july.
I called TD last year for insurance on July 10. I did everything over the phone. I got my insurance coverage on July 12. It only takes 2 or 3 days for u to get insurance from TD.

It is not waiting period but you have fill the form that you download from internet and then fax or mail it to them and they take about a month to process that and give a quote.

I did meet someone who did not have to wait or fill forms for TD Insurance but he said he is member of some association (similar to OACETT). May be that makes a difference too.

All these factors can make a difference when you deal with car insurance companies:

Type of license (like G, G2, AZ, DZ, etc.)
Your location
Years of driving experience in Canada
Years of driving experience elswhere
Convictions and claims
