network marketing is same as multilevel marketing. I never heard of multilayer marketing. I guess you can also call that.

Multilayer marketing is the kind of stuff you are talking about. Profits trickel down the layers. Making cold calls on people to develope further layers below you to earn profits. It is not network marketing.
Network marketing is where you use reference, word of mouth, key person at key positions, develop channels for logistics etc to market and sell product.
Multilayer marketing is a proved foolish way by which only parent company makes profit.
Any marketing guru on CD will explain it better to layman.
