With almost 100,000 dead and counting....thats the conclusion one might reach.
If he exists his design is extremely faulty. Second he is testing out his design on people, much like a nazi scientist.
100,000 martyrs against a vegngeful god.
Thoughts.

Testing out his design..............!!!!!??? But natural calamaties are centuries old. So even after so many years of existence, is He still perfecting his design?
And what about people killed in wars? What about innocent Iraqis getting killed without any fault of their own? And those few million people, who reelect that chimp so that few more Iraqis get killed in next four years.
Or is it a way of God to balance the earth? Ever thought why natural calamities are regular occurence in overpopulated poor third world countries? Is it a way of God to punish us for our crime?

It seems that you have a specific image of GOD. A benevolent/vengeful being... imposing his design...makes sense in that respect. Is that GOD though? I dont know but I dont think so.
All I know is that we are being asked to respond with generosity and take another step to reconcile with the perfection our souls actually are.

This disaster looks more like a solution to Malthusian problem.
In that, How do you solve the disparity between a geometric rate of population growth and an arithmetic rate growth of food supply?
By reduction in population Through natural disasters, famine (manmade and otherwise) etc...
Interesteingly, This is a issue only in the 3rd world. The Developed world has (more than) solved the problem of population growth vs food supply.

First, I said IF God exists. i dont think there is but for the sake of this discussion I assumed there is one.
Wars and other man made calamities can by careful argument be blamed on free will that we supposedly have. Natural forces on the other hand are not under our control.

I dont know. I started this thread because I was told by a religous person yesterday that GOD has a plan and knows what he/she is doing. And that All will turn out just fine.

Throughout the ages, after every disaster, man has looked to the skies and asked, How could there be a God, how could He allow such destruction and cruelty and loss of life. The challenge is not to question your faith in God after a disaster but to strengthen your faith. The real question we should ask is How many more people would have been lost had there not been a God?
Second, you have used a computer model - this is inappropriate. Computer is the invention of man, not God. He does not follow the design-build-test computer model. God works in mysterious ways his wonders to perform.
In the final analysis each of us needs to draw our own conclusions. For me the real insight is the power of nature. We think we have progressed and that we can control nature but that control is an illusion. Nature can in a blindingly small period of time undo things that man has taken years to put together. Whether it is an earthquake or a tsunami or a hurricane or a volcano or a tornado, nothing can withstand the full blast of Natures fury. It is a humbling experience.
