Folks ...... like it or don't ....... We'll have to face this question ..... or rather a reality in the very near future .. ( so near that it almost seems to be the present at times).

We desi's are very good at brushing issues under the rug ..... I would like to have people's views, which, is one of the reasons I have started this topic. ( please don't brush it aside just by tagging it a political issue)

Are we prepared to figure out explanations for the toddlers ???????

Should we try to stop this alternative family lifestyle ????

Should preferences of a few be eleviated to provide guidelines for all.

If we embrace it ..... with crossed fingures that it might fade away !!!!!

........... be my guest and indulge .....

I say., Lets make it legal  ., rather., we should support it to a level where it will just be called as Marriage ... A bunch of people who wanted to please the majority made rules that marriage should be only between "man" and "woman".., but, its just too brutal for people who are naturally and physically (ab)normal. I dint want to use the word abnormal coz, we always assume what we are is always normal...
If the toddlers are questioning .., let them know..,if you think they might get a (bad) influence and start behaving like one., its OK.,
The times where we talk of democracy and freedom to people., its always good to legalise things people do to suffice their inherent needs for being born as they are.
I say., Lets support it. The society should support it first than making it up as a political issue.

So let's make it legal if someone wants to roam around nude on the roads or parks so that he can enjoy nature and summer in the best possible manner.

So let's make it legal for couples to make love by swapping partners publicly since most human being love variety in sex.

So let's make it legal for students to attend schools in their underwear since at home they study in that state and love it.

Is this what you are trying to say??

(By the way, these are the quesitons raised on some talk shows that I heard on the radio just when the whole thing started late last year!!!)

Chandresh,

I have edited your post for something I found not appropriate for this forum. I understand it was not your point but it was too extremist and kinda over the top.

This is an extremely sensitive issue and I think both sides feel very strongly about it. It would be nice if we exercise some restraint in voicing our opinions.

I would agree with Blue Lobster .... I am sure we are all capable of having a decent discussion without losing boundaries or offending some group which does not share the same views.

I am repeating myself ....... the reason for bringing this subject up was to have the "desi" view on things ....

I would like to think that we as a visible minority CAN make a difference ... the point is what kind of a difference do we anticipate..... would we like to grow old in a hostile society and raise kids in a conflicting society....... remember we chose this country for a lot of reasons... most capital of them was to have an improved lifestyle from what we were enduring ......

Let's Share our views ......

HI BL,

Thanks for confirming what I had thought would be the reaction of members. I distinctly remember having heard that point (the one removed by you) (and in our local lingo - with my own two ears!!:D ) while I was shopping for some furniture at Keele and Steels. Yes, it was an extremist question - to which the host initially answered in the negetive, but finally when confronted with the queston :

if same sex marriage is considered acceptable because it is out of natural love and desire between two persons, and does not harm anyone else in the society directly, why not this scenario?

And the host said 'yes, why not, - you give me a reason why not?' - The caller had to himself end the call by saying that this was the most absurd thing he had heard in his life.

So BL and others, that is my point. I consider same sex marriage legalisation as absurd as the scenario that I had quoted and which was edited/deleted by BL (I am not writing that again - am I not a good guy!!!), or like the other three examples, which in my opinion are not absurd but unsocial.

And I don't agree to this legalisation not because of any taboos or because I am orthodox - infact I am confortable at discussing this subject with my teenage children. While I accept that these are natural phenomenon, but this is recognised in the society as (ab)normal. Now just because genetically some people are different from a vast majority of the society, their differences should not be legalised for the sake of individuals rights. If this is right, why not legalise marriages for those persons who are bisexual in orientation (who are attracted toward both men and women) - which again is a natural phenomenon.

Why not legalise Kleptomania (have I used the right word for people who have habit of shoplifting - even if they are multimillionairs?) - that too is a natural phenomenon?

And in my view, same sex marriage though a personal issue, DOES affect the other normal people in the society. I for one would feel extremely uncomfortable if I saw a two males sitting next to me kissing each other passionately - just as I would feel uncomfortable sitting next to a nude person on bench in the public park. So if one can be legalised saying that it does not directly harm me (though it does - since it makes me extremely uncomfortable), why not the other?
