So one would have to give up things like the Drivers Licensce, Health Card?
I mean formally go over to the Authorities and hand over saying "I am done here and i wont be needing this for quite sometime".
??

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.

Once, he becomes a Canadian Resident and filing his tax returns he would be asked by CRA to file his missing tax returns and than CRA has to decide whether he is required to pay taxes or not on the income earned during the period he was not a resident Canadian. More chances are that he would be asked to pay taxes and will get foreign tax credit.

Nor do I have to surrender my driver's license or OHIP card. Only that they will not get renewed.
You do have to surrender your OHIP card and DL as you need to be a resident of canada to be holding those. It will be very difficult for you to claim non-residency when you are in possession of those and remember CCRA has more resources and better lawyers to fight their cases to get money than you or me can afford or are willing to afford.
rest is your choice and decision..

I don't agree. When I am not resident and have no ties(meaning no personal interests on which the govt. is spending anything) then I am not expected to pay taxes. When I become resident again, I will start paying taxes again because I will start deriving benefits from living in the country. Nor do I have to surrender my driver's license or OHIP card. Only that they will not get renewed. So, if I come back after they have expired, I will have to start the processes all over again.
Nowhere does it say that once you become non resident, you cannot become resident again.

DiogenestheCynic does make sense. Thats what was my logical understanding -> live + benefit from the society=pay tax where you live. It might not be practical.
Anyways, anyone out there who worked in other countries after becoming canadian citizen and then came back to canada? Would certainly like to hear your experience!!!

Smiley..if I have to surrender my OHIP card, how would I go abt doing that ? The point being, I am not in Canada right now !!...Can I mail the card to the nearest Canadian consulate, stating thatr "here guys..i dont need this card for a long time now"...
The other question would be as follows :-
What if the card expires....do we still have to surrender an expired card ?
Pls explain guys
