Canadian Citizen travelling to India

Hi,

I am a Canadian citizen travelling to India in late July and returning back on August 30, 2009. I have an OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) stamped on my Canadian passport. My worry is that my Canadian passport expires late November 2009 and I might get stopped at immigration at the airport as my Canadian passport expires in the near future.

Do you think I will face any problem or everything will go through smoothly. Any advise will be appreciated.

As long as your passport is valid, I think you don't have any problems to come back

Entry requirement to India is for all passports to be valid for a minimum of six months and have at least two clear pages free. You will run into issues if traveling to India with a less than 6 months valid Canadian passport. Get your passport renewed urgently.

I have EXACTLY the same issue (travelling in July - passport expiry was Nov) - I have renewed my passport.

Hi

You should have at least six months validity at the time of travel regardless of travelling back to Canada or going overseas, so better to check with airline and it is better to renew the passport before heading India.

Is the requirement for having 6 months valid passport only for Canadian passport or for those who have India passport too?

If you are travelling to India, using Indian passport, you will not have problems entering India even if your passport expires next day.

As an OCI, I do not think the OP will have an issue - he will be safe.
