I have applied for a new Canadian passport which I will be getting next Friday. I fly on the Friday after that. My age is 40 yrs and as such I fall in the age group of 20 to 50 yrs where there is no need for me to go for re-issuance of OCI even though I wil be having a new Canadian passport. Do I need to do anythng else other than carrying with me the OCI certificate (booklet), old and new Canadian passports. Please let me know as this is valubale advice.

Thank you

I myself came to know about this rule for OCI on reading the earlier mail - and since then have lost my sleep. I fall in the 50+ category which means I have to register again.

No one picks up the phone at CGI or VFS and I do not know what to do. Yesterday, I asked my wife, who is in Delhi now, to go to MHA office and get an answer in person. She said that three officers told her not to worry about it - immigration will not hold you for this. Well - while relieving reply, this seems to be a typical babu reply too - and the guy actually sitting at the immigration counter can cause a lot of problems if he is not reasonable.

Similarly, for PIO, the card has a page for endorsement of new passport numbers by a 'Competent Authority' but it does not define a competent authority - and the web site of CGI toronto does not seem to have any mention of endorsement of new passport numbers on PIO.

They say your past sins haunt you and trouble you for the rest of your life - seems to be case here - these Inidan public office problems make you fee that the biggest sin in my life was being born an Indian!

Don't want to hijack the topic here. But this is a right point for discussion. How many on forum think the same way?

Count me for 'Yes'.

Now, may be being 'one' I should be doing something to improve the situations instead of running away (to Canada). But then I hear stories who tried and relented why they did even tried.

13. Endorsement of new passport number in the PIO Card

New passport number can be got endorsed in the PIO card by presenting at the counter the old and new passports and PIO card or can be mailed with a forwarding letter. There is no fee for the service. However, by mail the procedure may taken 7 to 10 days. If presented in person between 9 am to 12.30 pm, the service is rendered the same day.

In case the holder cannot spare time to get the endorsement done in the PIO card, due to urgent travel, he/she carry both, the new and the old passport, alongwith PIO card for smooth check in/out at immigration points.

My kids have traveled to India without the new PP number endorsed. Imm. officer dint even ask to see the old passport.

Chandreshji, OCI reissue can easily take 2-3 months as it as a full process of attaching all documents and submitting application (except now it will be miscellaneous fee of USD 25 plus VFS's fee CAD 20.21)and your original documents will be stuck longer now with outsourcing to VFS. As your travel plans are all finalized, I guess that does not leave you with much of an option.

To be on the safe side, you could get a Indian visitor's visa. You could use the options as per the time lines put in the Inndian embassy/ VFS Canada website or you could take a drastic move and fly to India with your OCI sticker on an expired Cdn. passport. The choice is yours.

Nah! I donot think as trivial as this needs a statement as huge as this. These are just simple problems in life.

I am a Canadian citizen and travelled to India in June. I had the same issue as the OP.

Called the consulate and they said take your old pp (U visa) along with the new one.

Had no issues at the airport (INDIA)

So nothing to worry !!:)

OCI registration certificate and 'U' visa sticker carry the passport number of the registered OCI. Accordingly, each time a new passport is issued to an OCI holder; it has to be captured on the registration certificate and visa. This would require re-issuance of OCI registration certificate and visa each time a new foreign passport is issued in the following cases.
Up to the completion of 20 years of age, OCI documents have to be re-issued each time a new passport is issued to the holder.
Between 21-50 years of age, there is no need to seek re-issuance of OCI documents each time a new passport is issued. However, if the applicant desires, he/she may avail the service for re-issuance of OCI documents.
After the completion of 50 years of age, OCI documents have to be re-issued once after issuance of a new passport

Are you below 20 and above 50
( or )
Between 20 and 50.

That will determine the usefullness of your post
