How about this? Check it out!

VANCOUVER VOTED TOP CITY IN AMERICAS BY CONDÉ NAST TRAVELER
In 2004, Condé Nast Traveler magazine voted Vancouver the "Best City in the Americas" at its annual Readers' Choice Awards ceremony held in New York. Vancouver won the top spot over Victoria and Quebec City.

"We're extremely honoured to accept this award," said Tourism Vancouver chair Paul Tilbury. "Condé Nast Traveler is a very respected publication, and winning an accolade such as this can only further elevate our profile in one of our key markets."

The poll divides cities into five specific geographical divisions including the Americas, which covers Canada, Central America and South America. Cities are scored on ambience, friendliness, culture and sites, restaurants, lodging, and shopping, to give a final ranking. Last year Vancouver was ranked second in the same category.

This award is at the top of a long list of accolades that Vancouver has received in recent years. The city has also been honoured with top rankings by groups such as the American Automobile Association and the International Air Transport Association, and consistently ranks as one of the most liveable cities in the world.

Also recognized at the ceremony were Vancouver's Fairmont Waterfront Hotel, which was voted the best hotel in Canada, and Vancouver Island, which won the "Best North American Island" category over Nantucket and Prince Edward Island.

Featured in the November issue of the magazine, the 2004 Readers' Choice Awards list the world's top cities, airlines, car rental agencies, cruise lines, hotels and resorts, and islands. Each month, the magazine is seen by an audience of 3.2 million readers, predominantly from the USA. The magazine is one of the top US consumer travel publications and has been conducting their Readers' Choice Awards since 1988.

Can anyone explain the difference between Vancover and Toronto?

I know that in Vancouver ,the weather is pretty moderate unlike Toronto.
Also I think their are more desi in Vancouver then in Toronto, am I right?
That could be also because the weather in Vancouver is like that of Asian Countries.

What about Job Opportunities in Vancouver? Is their shortage of jobs in IT sector of Vancouver.

I would appreciate if I get a detail answer.

Bye

For detailed background on Vancouver check out discovervancouver.com forum.

Pros vancouver is 1 of the most beautiful places in the world in terms of scenery , climate & surroundings . Gives u a small town feeling with ppl even travelling o cycles ........... Max no. of ethinicity -- Chinese......... but being a small city doesnt have great economy ---- drug adicts , vandals are not very uncommon ........ job market is not so good & the place is expensive .

Toronto provides u a vibrant economy with more of Desis and more character of a metropolitan city but the climate sucks .

make ur choice ......... ppl have started moving 2 BC esp after GTA is getting crowded .

VANCOUVER - Vancouver's natural assets and temperate climate make it one of the best cities in the world in which to live, a new survey says.

The annual quality of life survey released by Mercer Human Resource Consulting placed Vancouver third out of 215 cities, the same as last year.

Vancouver
Vancouver's climate helped it rise in the rankings, according to Mercer spokeswoman Danielle Bushen.

The only two places that beat the West Coast city were Zurich and Geneva in Switzerland.

Toronto edged up one spot in the rankings to 14th place. Montreal was 22nd, up two spots, Ottawa was unchanged in 20th spot, and Calgary was 25th, down one.

All five Canadian cities in the survey were praised for their relatively high levels of "personal safety and security" and for being in a politically stable country.

Baghdad was deemed the world's least secure city because of ongoing civil unrest and threats of attack in the city. Luxembourg was ranked the top city for personal safety and security.

In the United States, the highest-rated cities were Honolulu and San Francisco, tied in 25th spot with Calgary, while Houston, in 68th spot, ranked lowest.

Toronto might be a bit of a shock because it is packed!
Vancouver on the other hand is the most beautiful and best place to work, live and retire. The climate is immigrant friendly

Both places have their advantages and disadvantages :D

Guys,

I am planning 2 come finally in April / May 2006 after my landin in 2003.

In order 2 make a choice b/w Vancouver & GTA as per settlement I need ur opinion.

My priorities are

1. Job in related field - I am an Oracle DBA/ Developer . Am prepared 2 sit idle if needed for 3-4 months rather than go in for a survival job. Which place am I more likely 2 find a job and are there wage variances as well.

2. Community - Settling in a western world the changeover is preferred 2 b gradual . Which of the 02 places have more desis in proportion - in GTA which is the most densely populated - Mississuaga / Brampton /Scarborough ?

3. Climate - Natural beauty and moderate temperatures are definitely better than gray depressing weather . No wonder Vancouver is voted amongst the top locations . I know the answer 2 this 1 only thing is - it comes as a third factor and weighs less.

I shall appreciate inputs . Is it possible 2 get a job in Van sitting in GTA and vice versa and how much ur being present in the location increases ur chances ?

Manasvi.
