When I landed here the first time I took a local cell phone (international plan). 416 code, i.e. toronto and area.

With VOIP, there's a cheaper option, now.......:)

So how much monthly bill are we looking at here?

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.

20 bucks Canadian a month (includes caller id and voice mail). No incoming minutes to bother about (on the cell phone I imagine, you'd pay roaming to US$0.95 a minute depending on the service provider + the monthly fees of 30 bucks Canadian approx).

Sorry, just answering your question, we're off topic here, you can check out VOIP on one of the many threads that exist on the topic on the board.

Manjeet,

Mercury's advise is very good and your's too.

I am hopeful to get a job as you said. Though I just started applying for Canada, but I am getting lots of response from USA, and I am rejecting those. I cannot stay in USA as my H1 will expire for 6 yrs terms. I have to stay outside USA for 1 yr. My Visa is expiring in Nov' 2005. Some people are telling me to try in USA with PERM. People are getting labor done real quick. I am thinking that could be slight risk for me.

Similar to Mercury's suggestion, I already have planned to get PR, SIN card etc. and go to in India or other country for a while, and then come back to USA preferably or Canada.

I have some friends in Canada but not very close.
Your reply started my thinking. Probably I will contact them then to use their address. Good tips though !

Thanks,

Alok

PERM takes 3-4 months. You have that kind of time in hand if you act soon. Moreover, once you have applied to get the labor clearance, you can always get your H-1 extended for the 7th and even the 8th year.

Just a suggestion....might wanna look into it.

ya the new process is real fast and makes it worth trying out US option until the end. What takes 2 years or more can now be obtained in 60 to 120 DAYS.

Hi Alok, I'm also a PM and in USA and in same stage as yours. pl let me know, if possible, if you hit upon some idea of searching jobs in canada while in US.
