Hi Usha,
It is good that you are able to take some decisions about the move. Also, Kids may change their options, once they are exposed to the different opportunities available here. So, come with an open mind.
All the Best!

Hi, all CD's

We received medical papers and confused about when to move to Canada.

My son is studying in IX std in India with CBSE syllabus. Our ultimate aim is to send him for Medicine study in Canada.

Is it advantageous to study in Canada from IX std to get admitted to Medicine? From some websites, I found subjects selection from IX std in Canada where as in India there is no choice upto X std ( Except languages )

Otherwise, we would like to land and return back and stay in India for about three years before finally moving back to Canada permanently.

Could anyone suggest best option?

Usha

My younger son was in a similar situation of yours . So I would like to share our experiences.
We are also from Andhra .He is also interested to pursue Medicine, had completed 1st year inter in AP in March 2005. We landed in the first week of April.
We approached a secondary school in North York, suggested to give a test at Toronto Board (I am not sure of its exact name ?), which recommended that he should study (Repeat) X Math while commenting that his English as good.

The school in North York recommended him to wait until the next academic year and to study X class (math) privately before joining in Sept 05,the next academic year. He has just completed that course with 85%. Meanwhile he appeared for Toefl and got 247.
Since we will be shifting to Hamilton in Sept, he applied and now got admission into a High school in Hamilton in XII.

So I suggest your son should study both maths and biology in XI class, which is required for University education . Since CBSE is known and recognized here he may be directly admitted into XII.

We found April was good. The day we landed was Zero degree C and got adjusted easily. Though he did not lost an academic year, he had to spend ,out side school ,almost 5 months, though he appeared for TOEFL, X math at home , and some part time job - telemarketing. In May starting with $7 per hour and now being paid $14 per hour for this job . He is now transformed and more a Canadian. He left the job( Toronto) for school in Hamilton .

Hi PTM and Hope,

Thanks for your responses.

rajuu,

Thanks for sharing your experience. Why your son has to appear for TOEFL exams? Did he studied in Telugu medium? or

Is it compulsory for every student to appear for TOEFL to get admitted into secondary school?

aah i see the uptight nature of every indian parent. let your son decide what he wants to be. dont force him into medicine. and if you are more keen upon letting him study medicine in india then tell him to give the USMLES after he graduates and head to the US cause IMG's in the US dont have problems like IMGS in canada. IMG's are virtually facing a firewall in the canadian system.

universities ,to my understanding ,ask TOEFL score for those who did not have continuous education in Canada. And highschools do ask to take additional courses in english for similar reason .
Inorder to getaway from them and to focus on main subjects in XII , which needs high scoring for unversity entrance ,he appeared for TOEFL . so he utilised his free time for toefl.Children are needed to complete some hrs for the community service . He also did that .

Sorry for jumping into this. but I think it is important to consider this;

> The ideal time to put your kids in school may be xyz...
> But I think that would be driven by your job situation as well before
moving isn't it ?
You may / may not find a suitable job to your "liking" during the time
you think you should move. and it may be the perfect time in regard
to schooling.

What would be you thought process then?

Assuming that the student wants to proceed with doing medicals in Canada ,will he be required to take science subjects in Class ELEVEN.
