You might have to go in for a P.Eng certification in Canada.
It takes some time & study to go thro' this. I am not very sure about this since I am not an engineer.
Maybe other people can help you on this forum.
Thanks & rgds.

I guess the part I would have difficulty adjusting to would be on the job front if I have to start off as a store cleark, etc at the age of say 40, without knowing how long it would be till I get a job in my line of work. So trying to line up a job beforehand is the main criteria for me, although I know that that would be tough, but not impossible.
Thanks again

Hello Gulfboy
We all should come to Western Countries. Don’t sit there in Gulf and waste you life(You know what I mean). Yes as a new immigrant there are lot difficulties in getting job and therefore don’t leave your job and come. I suggest move your family first to Canada and you keep on applying for jobs. Do not marginalize you position by taking low paid jobs. Keep a +ve attitude always.
There are always ups and downs in life (doesn’t matter where is you live). Safe bet it to have cash to live in Canada for 4years and bigger opportunity opens (US). The whole N.America is at your door for highly qualified people like you. We need people like you here in Canada
I suggest all qualified people come here. Yes we have to make some sacrifice for coming generations. With our sacrifices we can make our mother country strong and yes take over the world (control the economy)

Guys,
I am really grateful for the replies - I have gone through the various sections on this site and have read both positive and negative opinions about immigrating to Canada. Just this morning, I received a mail asking me to visit http://www.notcanada.com" rel="nofollow">LINK - I have not done that as yet but guess it would be a site expounding the negatives only!!
I would be going on lannual eave to India in Dec and would like to make a try to start on the paperwork on my own first, without an agent, so is there something like a checklist of things to be done / papers to be kept ready at this stage of preparation for application.
Would appreciate some tips from you all who have done this before.
Thanks & Regards,
Gulfboy
For documents & forms, visit http://www.cic.gc.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK You would need Adobe Acrobat software for filling out the forms. Please note that if you need to save the forms, the downloaded copy won't do. You might need to get a full version.
You can get a lot of info from there. Start getting documents like school & college marksheets (for school 10th & 12th will do). Work documents like appointment letters, promotion letters, etc. will have to be submitted. Birth certificates of all members, marriage certificates, passports ofcourse. You would also need to show the necessary financial documents for which your fixed deposits, govt. bonds, cash balance, etc. will do.
Later on you would need police clearance certificates.
These are the immediate things you might want to start with.
Thanks & regards.

I hear that applying from ME would take less time as compared to New Delhi. May be u should take ME route.
Everything is on the CIC website with clear instructions. So no need for any agent or consultants.

I applied from Middle East ( London office) without any assistance from immigration lawyer. CIC site provides all the information required in detail. You need to spend time in going through the site.
My time line is
Application date - Jan 2004
AOR - Mar 2004
Medical papers received - Aug 2005.
I did not receive any letter from London office asking for anything between AOR and Medical papers. No interview.
I suggest you to go through CIC site thoroughly. Applying for PCC and IELTS tests are priority works. IELTS test cost you around Rs 5000. I feel it is better for anyone to appear for IELTS than justifying for its waiver based on your english medium studies etc.
Place yourself in place of immigration officer and attach clarification letters wherever things are not clear. It avoids unnecessary correspondence.
