Hi,
I'm working in US with my husband.
I've applied for PR along with my husband and completed IELTS and waiting for medical soon. Recently we are blessed with the baby. Since he is a US citizen and we haven't applied for his PR, can I carry him along with me when we land there or do I need to submit his application too. In later case, would it prolong my application approval time and what will happen to his US citizenship status
Appreciate your help
Thanks!
Chamya
Congratulations on the new arrival. You will need to sponsor your baby. As a US Citizen he can visit Canada but there will be a limit to the time he can stay in Canada. Also he will not be eligible for benefits like insurance/ education etc. These benefits are only for permanent residents/ Canadian Citizens.
We had the same situation - in our case we sent the babys application along with birth certificate, US Passport and additional fees to CIC. We got medical form for the baby and received visas for the entire family a few months later - it did not noticeably affect processing time and it was easier doing it first time around rather than landing here then sponsoring and then changing the babys status (from Visitor to Immigrant).
The Canadian Visa (or even Citizenship) will not affect his US Citizenship in any way.
we too have a US born baby and we got his PR card too. he will not be able to move here with out a PR card. what happens if in 18 yr he wants to stay and work here , he wont get medical . so please go ahaead and get his PR too. and I think you need to contact the counselate and let them know immediately. his US citizenship is not effected just as your Indian citizen ship is npot bt getting a PR.
what abiut if you have a baby in the US "after" you become a landed immigrant inCanada? Can you still go ahead and apply from within the US or you have to wait till you move to Canada?
